File Management - .unneeded .wav files in PD directory

I'm working several projects with voice overs and have generated dozens of .wav files that I don't need, but I see they're all stored in my Cyberlink - Power Director directory folder on my hard drive. It's easy to get rid of unused files in PD itself, but is there a way to identify which .wav files are used in a project, so I can delete everything else? Thanks

If you're finished editing those projects you can simply delete all the unwanted .wav files.

If you want keep the ones you ended up using in case you ever want to edit those projects again, I think you'll need to open each project one by one and take note of the unused .wav files in the media room and delete them using File Explorer.

PD used to allow both removal from the project library and deletion of the source clip from the drive, but that feature was recently removed - probably to prevent serious headaches if someone wasn't paying careful attention to what they were doing.

Hi,
There's no easy way to identify and then delete unused files from disc. There are a couple of workarounds but whether they will suit or be too cumbersome....?

If all your voice overs are displayed in your differing projects Media Libraries then you could try this.

Open a project
Select the Audio files only icon.
Use the Media Library View icon to change to the Details list view. You can then select the Name or Type column to sort by Name or Type, whichever suits.
Those used in the project will have a tick in the Used column.
Select an unused one, rt click, select Open File Location and then Delete the file in the File Explorer window.
Repeat etc. until all unused files are deleted from your disc.

Cumbersome but it works.

HOWEVER, that specifically applies to files unused in that project only. If a file is unused in that project BUT used in another, then you have a problem!!!

Alternatively, but even more manual.

Open a project
Select the Audio files only icon.
Use the Media Library View icon to change to the Details list view. You can then select the Name or Type column to sort by Name or Type, whichever suits.
If you have dual monitors it's easier then to undock the Media Library window, maximise it and screen capture all the used and unused audio files in that project.
Repeat for all projects.

Use the screen caps to go through your audio files and manually delete the unwanted, unused ones.

Neither of these are in any way slick but might do your job.

A better proposition going forward is to record and organise your VOs by project, rather than using a default location for all.

Cheers
