It is a pds.bak file you're looking for.
I'd also suggest you get the latest PD and not rely on such an old editor which compared to what most of us use is out of date.
PD8 has Auto save and provides a continuous back up every 10 minutes.
In future, don't attempt to overwrite a pds, opt for
File > Save Project as and save a NEW pds each time and identify each with a numerical naming structure.
