Audio Out of Synch After Producing Mpeg-2 File

Hi Everyone. I hope someone can help me on this problem. I'm working on old family videos. I have recently transferred a video tape onto a DVD recorder. I then took the DVD and downloaded into my PC. The files are VOB files.

I used Windows command prompt to merge all the VOB files into one. Now, I've completed editing the video in the timeline in Powerdirector 19. The Aspect Ratio of this video is 4:3.

I've added some image stabilizer into the video. Also, I've edited the audio to remaster the sound using Audio Editor in the program.

Now I previewed everything in the timeline and everything is in Synch. I go to Produce file and just reviewed it again in the window on the side and everything is in Synch. Now I select MPEG-2 as my format and in Profile/Quality, I've selected DVD HQ 720 x 480/60i (8 Mbps).

It took over 2 1/2 hours to produce the file of a video that is 1 hour and 30 minutes long. Now when I play the produce file, the audio is out of synch as it goes far ahead of the video. Does anyone know why this is happening? Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can correct this? Thank you.

Best regards, Steve

Personally, I would not have merged the VOB files at windows level. I would have insert them into the timeline in the proper order.

But you indicate that when playing the video and audio are still in sync.

The duration of the production (2,5 hours) might be an indication that there was some (heavy) video conversion required, which might cause the sync problems. It would be good to understand/check what the format specs are of the VOB files you used as input. Likely not HQ and maybe a different rate? I would start looking at the problem there. Maybe share them here, so that we can look over your shoulders?
After adjustment, may it would be a good idea to test -say- the last 5 mins of the production, by selecting that portion in the timeline and production the selection only?

Obtain, save, and post the MediaInfo/text (freeware) of the merged VOB file as an attachment on your next reply. Here is a link for the online mediainfo if needed: https://mediaarea.net/MediaInfoOnline .

The problem with simply concatenating VOB files is that the resulting VOB does not have proper time and often will not display the correct playback time, you might see that in a player, that may be part of the sync issue. Additionally, PD has had some sync issues with multiple VOB's in the timeline during editing.

I'd suggest using a VOB merge tool, or just put the VOB's on PD's timeline with no editing and producing to the same quality, or use PD capture module as that creates one large mpg file from DVD. Once done, use this file to edit in PD and see if your sync issues improve.

Thank you all for your feedback as I greatly appreciate it. I've tried using a program to merge the VOB into MPEG file and when I put the file in Powerdirector timeline, when I previewed the video before doing any editing, the audio was distorted making a clicking sound every second. But, if I don't put the file in the timeline and preview the file in my folder or watch it using any other software, it plays fine. Any suggestions on another software for merging VOB and what format I should save it? I save as a MPEG and keeping the aspect ratio the same as I want to keep the file as the original format. I was using Video Converter by Wondershare. I will be working on this video this weekend and try your ideas and see what results I get. Thank you all again.

Best regards,

Steve

Hi Everyone. OK, I put on the time the 3 separate VOB files, but there's a one second of silence between each VOB. Is there a way to combine it or should I produce the file as it won't affect that one second of silence?

Below is the link to the report of the VOB that I've merge using the C command prompt in windows and I've used this to produce the file in Powerdirector.

Media Info of Merge VOB Files

Hi Everyone. OK, I've been working on this for a few hours this evening and with not much luck. Now, I've tried different VOB merge files and each one causes an issue on playback. Now I produce only the last 5 minutes of the video. One issue is the video at times isn't stable, it seems to be like slow motion, but the audio is however in synch. Now I've tried a different VOB merger software and when I put it in the timeline, the audio keeps clipping. I've tried the video in a VLC player and also another video editing software and the video and audio plays fine, no issues. The only thing I see working with Powerdirector is putting the original 3 VOB files from the DVD on the timeline. Only problem is when it goes to the next clip, it's not a smooth audio transition as less than a second gap or no audio. How can I get all the VOB files to play on the timeline without any audio glitches when going to the next VOB file?

Below is links to the following:

Created a few minute clip towards the end of the video of merge VOB. Audio was synched, but video wasn't smooth, near the end it looked the video was slow/stalling

Produce Merge VOB File Issue

Created a few minute clip of the original VOB from the DVD, no video or audio issues except I can't get a smooth audio transition from one clip to the other.

Original DVD VOB Produce File Not Merge

This worked in other softwars and video player VLC. In powerdirector it works when previewing the media file, but once dropped in timeline, the audio is clipping.

Used a software to Merge VOB

I resolved the issue. I took the original DVD files containing the VOB files. By using the C command Prompt in windows, I've merged all VOB files into one file. After merging, I opened PD 19 and imported the merge file into the timeline. I didn't edit the file and just produce the file as is to HD MPEG-2. This has worked. Then I went step by step by first editing the audio, produce the file again and everything was in Synch. Now, I've done the final editing of making color correction, etc. and produced the file and everything is in Synch. This was a long project for one video, but it was worth it as this video has great memories. Thank you again for your help.

next time try this soft:
https://www.videohelp.com/software/VOB2MPG
http://www.svcd2dvd.com/VOB2MPG/default.aspx
It will merge more VOB files into one mpeg2 file. I have paid version, but free version should work either, perhaps slower.
Milos, Slovakia.
P.S. I have Win 7 64bit, concerning Win 10:
