Storing Effect Packs, transitions, presets, etc.

My 1TB "C" drive is starting to fill up, severely slowing down my processing times. I've read that I shouldn't move my Director Suite to another drive, but can I move all my extra assets like effect packs, transitions, clip art, LUTs, etc. to an external drive? How about downloaded videos from ShutterStock?
I've got a fast 7200RPM SATA 8TB drive that I'd like to use. If that's not a problem, how would go about migrating everything over to the new drive. Even if I have to delete everything and redownload them, that would be acceptable. I've just got to free up space on drive "C".
Thanks.

After a long go-round with tech support, it turns out that I can't use my new drive because it's an external drive and Cyberlink won't recognize my assets if they are stored on an external drive. Bummer.
My only choice to get more space is to replace my single hard drive with a new, larger one - wiping out everything and starting all over. Super Bummer.

Can you add an internal drive to you system? That perhaps even in compination with folder mapping may be a solution?

I think their advice was mostly to prevent you from having difficulty if you ever opened up PD without the external drive attached. I also see that you cannot set the Application Manager to install directly to an external drive, but you use Windows junctions to redirect a folder on your C: drive to a folder on your external drive.

To do that, first create a folder on your external drive like USBFolder, then open a command window as an administrator and type in mklink /J C:\CLFolder x:\USBFolder (where x: is your destination drive's letter). See this link, or Google if you need more info.

Next, uninstall PD and all related apps and content packs via the Application Manager (assuming you have the subscription version) or the Windows uninstaller, and then set the App Mgr's destination folder to be C:\CLFolder and install away.

Here is the Cartoon Titles pack physically stored on an external USB drive:

Well, this is pretty exciting! I've got a project for the weekend to try out.

Actually, I've never used a "junction" before, I've always mapped drive letters to my external USB drives; but I'm certainly going to try and figure out how to do it with your instructions.

Thanks again,
Doug

If you are not computer savy to carry out your own upgrade, simply have a tech do it for you I guess. If you prefer, one can easily change out the 1TB "C" drive with something significantly larger and loose nothing. No need to wipe anything and nothing to start over. Everything will be 100% intact.

You can actually add junctions and manually move all your existing content onto the external drive, but that's a little more involved than starting over with PD. Read through this discussion to get a sense of what's involved.
