new laptop for powerdirector 18

I recently got a great deal on a gaming laptop: Asus , with intel i7, 16 gb ram , Not purchased solely for powerdirector, but I thought this would work well for running the program, however, not so.
I get a lot of lagging when doing things like, splitting a clip, or even just moving clips around. It lags, sometimes crashes, I get the "program not responding" message often.
So, I'm looking to buy a new laptop, that will run powerdirector 18 smoothly, and have plenty of storage space. It actually does not have to be a laptop, could be a desktop as long as it comes bundled with the monitor, and my budget is around 800.
Anyone have any suggestions? What would you buy? Are there any laptops that may come bundled with powerdirector 17, or 18?

There are far more 'techie' people than me, but I run PD18 on my laptop and it runs very smoothly. That said, any gaming laptop is likely to be configured so that the GPU is only triggered when a game is being run. In my case, I have a GTX 1060 graphics card, which runs my games really well. PD18 doesn't see it at all, so when I edit or render, I'm using my i7 CPU. As I edit HD rather than 4K, I get a great result when editing and rendering, but I'm not sure how the i7 would handle 4K work. As a general rule, a Desktop will always be a better option for video editing. As for which one to get, over to those with more knowledge. cool

In the mean time, disable "Shadow Files". in the User Preferences (gear icon).
or
wait until they have been generated you'll see the progress above the timeline.

There are other user preferences that you might need to address.

Your gaming computer should not be an issue unless you are doing a lot of "fancy stuff" with the video. .

Thank you for the comments.
I disabled shadow files, also enabled hardware acceleration, and did optimization. Still a lot of lag,and loading time when doing simple tasks.

Anyone have any idea if it would help to change any settings in the Nvidia,.. geforce gt 630m 2gb

There aren't any. The mobile versions (630m) are typically reduced in functionality compared to the desktop version, and even the desktop 630 only has AVC/H.264 encoding support for producing. It's a low end GPU that appears to have come out 8 years ago.
