Lenovo Thinkpad P43s + external eGPU for rendering? (for example Gigabyte Aorus Gaming Box GTX 1080)

Hi all
on my Lenovo Thinkpad P43s are two GPU's:
1) a GPU Intel UHD Graphics 620is complete spam...
2) Second GPU NVidia Quadro P520 according to the NVIDIA GPU hardware specification, does not have hardware "encoding" capability.
It is expected PowerDirector can only use the CPU computing on the platform when encoding a video.

My question is
Do you have experience and would you recommend using an external video card (eGPU) for video processing / rendering ?
For example Gigabyte Aorus Gaming Box GTX 1080 https://www.gigabyte.com/Graphics-Card/GV-N1080IXEB-8GD#kf
I plan to connect the devices through Thunderbolt 3 on my laptop.

Laptop Specs:
CPU i7-8565U
GPU NVidia Quadro P520 2GB + Intel UHD Graphics 620
Windows 10 Pro 64
24gb Ram
Thunderbolt 3

Thanks in advance

welcome to the forum.

it's totally up to you and may i suggest these on going discussions about... Hardware acceleration makes no difference? and Funny - I sound like Laptop guys. No Nvidia HW Encode on my Desktop .

and my recommendation is always 'it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it'

oh happy happy joy joy ^^
