When I use the "save as" function the project is saved, but when I try to import it back into Power Director 18 I receive an error message. This happens on each file that I attempt to save and open every time. The message reads: An error occurred when opening this media file. The file is broken, an unsupported format, protected video content or for another reason.

You use the word "import", yes if you import a pds file you will get that error. If you used "Save Project As", try just "Open Project". PD pds files are not video files, they are simply a set of instructions on what to do with the video files you have used and saved reference to in the pds file.
