Creating a movie in PD 17

Hi all

I don't know if you can help me but it's worth a shot!

I want to create a disc of some home movies. I have captured the video using Cyberlink v10, which was on a disc I got when I bought the VHS to DVD hardware (from Maplin, years ago). However v10 because it is ye olde only allows me to capture footage; whenever I try to do anything with it, it freezes. I upgraded to Windows 10 recently, so this is obviously the problem.

So I downloaded a free trial of 17 with a view to buying it if I could get it to work. The first problem I have with 17 is that it doesn't allow me to capture footage from an external source (i.e. the way that I do on v10). So what I'm having to do is use v10 for the footage, shut that, and then edit it in v17. Annoying, but liveable-with. However, I only have a free trial of v17 which expired as I've been away. When I go to "create disc" it says I can't do this with v17. Do I need to purchase v17 in order to burn a DVD full stop? I am loathe to purchase it if it won't allow me to capture footage from a VHS as that's the whole reason I had Cyberlink in the first place. Is there any other way of burning the video I've made to a DVD? I have tried burning it using Power2Go and that just comes up with a load of jpgs on the DVD, which doesn't make any sense.

Thank you in advance for any help you can give.

PD17 does work properly with analog capture using a dongle. Initially it did not work and there were two different bugs that that I reported on the capture and posted on one of them. See this link: https://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/77667.page . After that bug was fixed, there was another bug on the capture that I reported. Finally it worked after almost a year later.

Since you are using the PD17 trial that would mean that you are on the very first unpatched version so it doesn't work. There are no patch for the trial. You have to buy PD17 and patch it. It should then work as well as the capture on your PD10.

Thank you for your reply. Do I have to purchase the dongle separately or do you mean I should be able to use the hardware I have bought (the USB which comes with the VHS-to-DVD software)? I will buy the software if it means that I can capture the footage. I don't know what patching is though!

Does the trial allow creation of a disc, or again is it only the bought software?

In your initial post you claimed that you can capture analog video using the VHS to DVD hardware (dongle) using PD10. If this is the same pc with the PD17 trial, then it should capture just as well. Any software including windows will always have bugs. They are fixed with patches after you buy it. You know that? Right. Patches are found here: https://www.cyberlink.com/support/index.html?action=download .

Great, thank you - I didn't know that and don't really know how I would go about using patches as I am not an IT guru! If it doesn't work properly presumably I go to that link, download the patch and then click to install it like I install normal software?

Sorry to bump my own thread, could you help me regarding burning a DVD please? Can this only be done with the full version of the software?

Thanks.
