Video tracking just will not work for me on PD18. I have done it before, however every time I hit track, the movie never tracks in the tracking window or even plays.

Updated video drivers but no go (Nvidia 1080TI)
Disabled Hardware aceleration abd OpenCL but no Go

Any ideas?

Perhaps you can elaborate a bit?
What video type, what video settings? You use Motion tracker from the tools menu I assume?
Maybe a screen shot of what you do?

So its easier if I just capture it with Screen Recorder. Here is the link to just a sample video of trying to replace a face with a friend and what steps I take. Note: the sample video was also captured with Cyberlink Screen recorder as well so shoudl be 100% compatible

Also attached below in screenshots are:

  1. The video properties info

  2. Nvidia Driver version confirmation of latest WHQL driver installed

    Thanks

Thanks for supplying the Cyberlink Tracker Bug recording. Try this: At 18 seconds in the YT video don’t do what you did. Click the Track button instead. After the tracker finish then do what you did for the rick head image. That should fix it. You can reposition the head later as necessary.

hope this help...

Thanks for the suggestion...
Just tried your advise without the head, but same issue. Tracked video never actually starts playing or "tracking"

The screen recording is very helpful, and there seem to be some earlier edits you've made that are playing a role here.

I noticed that the recorded clip on the timeline seems to have been split into separate audio and video tracks, and it's possible that that is interfering with the MT tool.

Does the main timeline preview work normally for those clips? If they're actually split, what happens if you move the audio section farther down the timeline? If you have the clips grouped together, what happens if you right-click and choose Group/Ungroup? What happens if you drag a new copy of the recorded clip from the library onto the timeline and use tomasc's editing approach?

Thanks for the video and the JPGs. It clearly showed your case.
My first suggestion would be like tomasc to track first without the image. That, apparently does not help.
I have tried to replay your case in my system, and all works as expected. Including using a png image file.

So something else is going on. My PD version is 18.1.2405.0, do you have the same?
If you want to make sure that it is not (the driver of) your NVIDIA card, then switch off (all) the hardware encoding options.

What about the mp4 file? I guess that it plays without tracting too? And it also plays in the Motion Tracker screen without the tracking (using the play button)?

What happens if you press the button to track one frame only?
Did you try another image / video combination? Maybe also with a video that is not from "captured" (as the name of file might indicate).

The included image appears in the timeline, track 2, if I press the Okay button WITHOUT tracking.....

(I am doing the same as optodata is: give suggestions for possible causes for this to happen. All combinations work in my system, also the video/audio separated as he suggests. We have to do a bit more Sherlock-ing I guess.)

let us know how it goes!

Jupiter1 - Thank you for the excellent documentation. Your 2 min 45 sec 24 frames clip is too long for motion tracking to work. That is a total of 4969 frames. Motion tracking only works with 4096 frames or less. See this post: https://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/81186.page . Simply set the tracker to 2 min. 15 sec. maximum and start another tracker for the last 30 sec. of that clip and everything should work.

In earlier versions of PD, I can simply move the area to be tracked to be 1 sec. less. than the indicator and everything works for the first tracker. This may not be possible in PD18 and you may have to split the clip. Optodata or Warry would be best to advise you on this one.

Just tried this and it works. At the end of 18 sec. in your YT video, click the Track button and let the tracking finish. In the motion tracker window, place the mouse cursor at the right end of the Tracker 1 green horizonal line where it becomes a double head arrow. Click and drag the green end to the left to be say less than 2 min. 15 sec. Click the Stop button and then click the Play button. Motion tracking should work.

You need to start a new Tracker 2 for the 2nd part of the video. That is it. You can add the image. Resize it. Reposition it. Do the same for the second tracker.

Ok so tried a bunch of your suggestions and captured a 2nd video.

https://youtu.be/kcMXptbQ8Es

to your question about audio...the audio was split, as I tried that to see if it was the audio messing up the tracking.

So in this one, I tried the following but no go:

  1. Removed audio completely.

  2. Tried every HW decoding combination

  3. Also tried your method of keeping hte video small

  4. Used another ideo so youc an see it happens to all videos for me

Also my version is 18.0.2313.0, i tried updating to the latest GM3 patch today but got a version requirement error, so unsure if there is a point release i need to load 1st. I have a ticket open with support on that one since it is an install bug. dont want to cloid too much but if you habe a patch in between this and 2405, would appreciate giving that a shot to vet to current. this is a fresh install as of yesterday. Was on PD16

Thanks
J

From your recorded video it does seem that the motion tracker is not working at all. I did try shadow files enabled with no problem. Go to Preferences/Project and check Automatically load sample clips... Restart PD18 and try the motion tracker on the sample mp4 skateboarder's buttocks. It should work. If the tracking does not work then there could be a problem with the PD18 installation on the pc. Try the sample clip first. In your case once the gorilla's head is not showing on the screen then motion tracking will be lost and another motion tracker will be needed when the head reappears in the video.

Very good that you present your situation so clearly in the videos!

My feeling and recommandation would be to focus on getting to the latest version first. It appears that that version has a working tracking function, at least on our systems.

Uninstalled everything and upgraded to latest version. Still have the same issue, so was not a version issue.

There is definitely a bug in the software. Was able to also replicate on a second PC now that has Win10 x64 with another Nvidia 1080 and no other software or wven A/V at this time

I'm glad you were able to get the latest version installed. Did you try the motion tracker with the sample clip as tomasc suggested?

If that works, then there may be an issue with your specific source clip, or possibly with the edits in your project that I mentioned earlier. The best way to tell would be to share the clip and project to see what happens on other people's machines.

If you're comfortable doing so, go to File then Pack Project Materials and save the packed project to a folder on OneDrive, Google Drive, DropBox, etc and paste the link here. That will give us a more complete understanding of what's going on.
