The only reason people use green or blue screen is that they are colors that do not match anything in the background. If a person wears a green shirt and then uses a green screen and then chroma keys it the body will be gone. So if a person has a green shirt on then they use a blue screen.
Yes, you are just doing a Croma key no matter what color you use. I use an app to help me.

Lighting is the most important when you chroma key more than just the color of the background you use. More light makes it easier to chroma key. Also with anything you learn more by doing. So set that camera up to take a 2 minutes video of you reading to the camera and load it into PD and practice that chroma key. Try different lights in different spots. Until you find what works for you.
