Toggle HDR automatically

Hi!

Today I upgraded from PowerDVD Ultra 17 to PowerDVD Ultra 19, for the sole purpose of getting truetheather in 4k.
With version 17, the HDR settings automatically activated when I started playing a movie that supported this.

In version 19 however, I get a popup saying I need to enable HDR in Windows to be able to see the movie in HDR. I never needed to do this before and since I use my computer mostly for non-HDR movies I don't want to manually switch the HDR option in Windows every time I want to see a HDR movie.

Is there a way to automatically let PowerDVD enable, and then disable, HDR when playing HDR videos again? I have no idea why they would make the HDR experience worse, it was better in version 17 where it happened automatically.

PowerDVD 19 applied Windows HDR, so you must enable the settings on your Windows OS first.

A non-HDR video won't be played in emulated HDR after you un-check the "TrueTheater HDR" item on the TrueTheater panel. It won't be affected by the above configuration even though you enabled the HDR display option on Windows.

The problem is I use my computer for browsing, games etc. as well so I don't want to keep HDR enabled at all times.

I don't want to go through the trouble of changing settings every time I want to watch a HDR video.

Regarding the post you linked to, I have a question about the following statement: "* For Ultra HD Blu-ray HDR playback, the HDR effect is only available at full screen mode using an Intel GPU. Also, the Play HDR games and apps setting must be turned OFF in step 2 before you start the playback.".

I'm playing UHD files with HDR. Shouldn't I turn on HDR in Windows then? If I don't, my TV does not interpret the signal as HDR.

UHD file is not UHD disc (Ultra HD Blu-ray).
A MKV file could be ripped from a Ultra HD Blu-ray disc source, but it is a MKV file actually (encoded with HEVC 10 bit and HDR metadata, subtitles, etc.) but not a "Ultra HD Blu-ray" file.

If it is a file, you have to turn on the HDR on Windows first to play it in HDR.
If it is a Ultra HD Blu-ray disc, you will get your HDR on the TV after the playback entered the full screen.

Thank you for your information.

That means I might go back to PowerDVD 17. It's a hassle to toggle Windows HDR on/off.

Does anyone know of a way to toggle Windows HDR more easily? Or even better, automatically?
