Certain .flv & .mp4 files play audio but no video

When playing either of the following file types in PowerDvd17 or 18, audio is heard but no video is scene. at one point (unfortunately I cannot trace to when it changed) both types played in PowerDvd17.

.flv files encoded with video on2's vp6.2 video (flash) (vp6f) codec play in other media players (VLC, MS Media Player) but not PowerDvd.

.mp4 files encoded with video H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (part 10) (avc1) codec play in other media players (VLC, MS Media Player) but not PowerDvd.

Any ideas of what may have changed? My system hardware has not changed since I installed either version of PowerDvd. It is my understanding that PowerDvd does not use links to external codecs. So I am assuming that other software changes would not effect it.

powerdvd 17 and powerdvd 18 only support playing flv video, which is encoded with H.264 codec.
I don't think powerdvd 17 can play vp6 flv file as their spec.
vp6 is not supported by powerdvd so far.

H.264 MP4 file should be playable if no unknown or compatibility problem with your GPU.
Does powerdvd17 still play H.264 MP4 video normally on your PC "currently"?

As stated in my post, all MP4 worked at one time in PowerDvd17. Some no longer work in either 17 or 18.

These are not new files. I have done more comparison between the MP4 that work versus those that don't. I was trying different video control in PowerDvd. I had switched on Video Enhancement. It did no change in playback as far as video showing in those that did not show. However, I did notice that Video Enhancement is indicated as Not Available for those files that show no video.

uninstall and reinstall your GPU driver, and then check it again.

If it does not help your case, contact cyberlink support.

I have opened the files that do not show video in VLC. I then ran them through VLC converter still using H264 -MP4. Once completed the video plays in PowerDvd with no issues. It must have something to do with the encoding. Before and after conversion codec stats are the same.

It is strange that they play just fine in other players but not PowerDvd.

As far as my GPU drivers, they have been updated a couple of times since this issue started, No change as I am sure you can deduce. It is something that support would need to see the actual file(s) that has(have) issues to see what may be different between it(them) and working files.

I appreciate your interaction. For now, I have a work around by converting the files. A hassle, but not terrible. I am doing the same with the FLVs that are encoded with vp6.
