The short answer is that PD can work with 10-bit clips, but it can only produce in 8 bits.

I downloaded a sample clip from this Google Drive folder, then added a title and produced it in PD17, and you can download that video from here. You'll definitely want to use shadow files for 4k clips in PD.

Here are the relevant details of the two clips from MediaInfo (Note the produced clip is named "Mavic Pro 10-bit" because that's the name of my PD project, but the produced video does only have an 8-bit depth:
