After installing PD8 over PD7 (Vista), got error when trying to run PD8 for first time. "The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more details". Need clarification, help, or at least directions on where to find the event log.

Hi Mario,

1st mistake, you cannot install one version over the top of another version, it is necessary to completely uninstall PDR7 before you install PDR8.

Uninstall PowerDirector in accordance with Part C

You may have some problems completely uninstalling, so use the Microsoft clean up tool to uninstall. It is important that you remove all traces of PowerDirector from your computer, before installing PDR8, so make sure you check for any hidden files remaining after uninstalling. Also uninstall PhotoNow.

When you are sure that All remnants of PowerDirector have been removed, install PDR8

After all remnants of PD7 and PD8 were tracked down and removed, PD8 installed fine. Took a while, but it was worth it. Thanks for all the help.
