automatic overlay/chroma key

I've been using video copliot's action essentials 720p and decided to go for the the 2k version but have come across a problem that i can't figure out unfortunately
with the 720p clips if i add them to the timeline they overlay or chroma key themselves automatically into the footage and they look great, with the 2k clips the black background stays when i add them to the timeline, if i chromakey it out it works but looks terrible compared to the 720p that has done it automatically
both files are .mov format any ideas please as i'm stumped
thanks

PD16 should show mov with alpha channel but sometimes it does not you have two options: convert your footage to a mov with the png codec (ffmpeg can do that) or take the footage and set the blending mode to "screen".

I had a look at Video Copilot's website and had a look at the gallery demo.
What they showed there, were effects in .mp4 format.
.mp4 cannot contain video with an alpha channel. So there will be no transparency. The option with setting the blend mode to "Screen" is the only possible option with that kind of footage. All black will appear transparent.

P.S. it seems, that the .mp4 were just the preview...

Thank you, it's definitely an alpha thing, i just got one of the 1080p versions working fine (without any adjustments) i double clicked it on the timeline to open the clip and position it, i positioned it then it suddenly turned back to the black background aarggh!
i have uninstalled and reinstalled pd16 just incase it was a problem with the programme but it's still doing it, it seems as i add the clip to the time line the black dissapears for a spilt second then it comes back

Ahhh, thats easy. Turn off shadow file usage!
PD16 will make a shadow file, if the footage is full HD or higher, and shadow files are switched on.
Shadow files are .mp4 format. And as I said before, .mp4 cannot have alpha!
