I've been trying to edit some videos and as soon as I open a file, my entire system shuts off. This has happened about 6 times in a row now and I'm at my wits end at what could be wrong?

If you recently upgraded graphics cards or upgraded your system, check to see what your computer's power suppy rating is.

If you are running a 4800 ATI card or NVidia GTX 2XX card, and a quad core processor, for example, you likely need a good 600 watt power suppy.

There is no reason the program should reset your system, unless some catastrophic event like not enough juice to power your system.

Hi Karina623,
OK, I need you to do a few basic tasks and then a test and perhaps it might fix your issue.

1. Uninstall PD7 and reinstall then apply the latest patch.
http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/2405.page
Subject: PowerDirector - information we request and tasks to carry out.
PART C

Patch:
http://www.cyberlink.com/downloads/support/powerdirector/patches_en_US.html

2. I want you to drag the sample files from the media library and carry out a simple bit of "play" editing with them and then go to Produce or Create Disc (create to a folder).

3. Please read up on PART D, F and H

4. I want you to then tell us exactly what actions you were carrying out and the file formats you were selecting. IF this is a bug which is in PD causing the crashes it needs to be localised and reproduce-able. Writing down all your actions and selections is the method used to help us help you.

5. In the event the crashes are caused by your own PC failing to cope with the stress of video editing then the testing will show this up as well.

6. Babdi suggested Defragmenting your Hard Drive - do it. Disable the Auto-update of your anti-virus is what I'd recommend, do it manually.
Clear out your temp files as well.

7. Alex suggested - Update your graphic card drivers - do it after carrying out my initial recommendations. I concur with his observations.
