Black and white movie on blu ray excessive contrast

i have tried three different movies with the same result. The contrast is so high that most of the picture is so dark it can't be seen. adjusting my monitor contrast and brightness (with AMD visionl) has little effect. i am using Win 7. Colored Bluy ray and DVDs play ok.

How about turning TrueTheater effect off to check the b/w movie playback?
Click the eye icon on playback bar, and then untick the video effect.

I turned off TrueTheater, but that did not correct the problem.
