Can't import H.265 HEVC

Hi. I am trying to import an H.265 HEVC file (2560x1920) file into PowerDirector 15 but it fails with an error stating “An error occurred while opening this media file in the media library” etc.

I then downloaded the PowerDirector 16 trial version to see if it worked but got the same error.

The file plays just fine with MPC-HC and can also be loaded and edited just fine with Filmora but I need to be able to edit it with PowerDirector.

Does anyone have any idea as to what I am missing?.... or doing wrong?

Many thanks!

David

Hello David,

Your question more correctly belongs in the PDR15 forum, so I'll transfer it over. It will get more attention there.

2560x1920? It's 4:3, yes?

For what it's worth, PDR15 imports HEVC H.265 2560x1920 here. Admittedly, it was created in PDR15 smile

What is the source of your video? Does it have an .mp4 file extension?

Hi!.... and many thanks for such a quick reply and for redirecting a newbie to the right place in the forum!

Yes... it's 4:3 2560 x 1920 and it was created by a Hikvision CCTV system.

MPC-HC shows the data below for the file.

I would blame Hikvision for a strange layout if it were not for the fact that other systems can read it.

Many thanks!

Kind regards,

David

Hi David

As far as PD16 is concerned, I can tell you that H265 is not available in the trial version.

PD15 should handle H265 except for the DELUXE version.

I was tring to import it into PowerDirector 15 Ultimate and it was failing. I just tried the PD16 trial but understand that this would fail anyway. Not really wanting to shell out more money on PD16 when I only purchased PD15 in December and when we can't be sure that it will work.

Is it time to change to Filmora? I really don't want to do that.

Kind regards,

David

You may have a CODEC issue, have you tried installing a Mega Version of K-lite Codec Pack? Carl312: Windows 10 64-bit 8 GB RAM,AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz,ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB,240GB SSD,two 1TB HDs.

G'day David -

Do you have a shorter sample clip in that format/profile? I mean one small enough to upload for testing. That might help in resolving this for you.

Even though PDR15 Ultimate supports HEVC import & production, your video has an unusual set of properties. No audio & a text file (subtitles, I guess).

I tried to make a profile that matched your video & succeeded to a point. Here's a short test file. Check to see whether it imports correctly at your end. MediInfo report is attached.

Cheers - Tony

Security camera footage have no standards like consumer cameras would have and use. A short clips of less than a minute would be good to determine what needs to be done as Tony suggested.

Hi,

Many thanks for the idea but sadly this is one I have already tried.

Kind regards,

David
