You realize that putting the full HD video onto a DVD will result in a 720 by 480 (old style VHS quality).

Where are you going to play the video?

You can always:
1) Use a memory card/stick.
2) Make a blu ray disc.
3) Use an alternate program like X-VID or DIVX. .

yes, I understand that I’m trying to mix two things together but it has to go to a dvd (technically ISO format). I am just trying to find out if and how it can be done

There are at least 3 ways to put that 1.5 hour video on DVD and have good quality. If the aspect ratio is 4:3 then just choose the appropriate settings in the 2D disc tab for quality.

If the video is 16:9 then choose Smart Fit. There are at least 3 other ways to do it in the settings. Try smart fit first.

Stevek - It is not necessary to know what the source resolution is in this case. He is asking what file format and resolution he needs. Smart fit fixes all that for the OP.

high definition does matter, but as the first answer said... I’m tying to fit 100 pounds into a 10 pound bag.

Using Smart fit, I can get 2.5hrs 1280x720 onto a single-layer DVD. It looks great being played.
Give it a try. .
