Is this normal? - Extremely laggy timeline preview + PDcrash after LUT + stabilizer + color applied.

I have the shadow files on.

Machine is a Gigabyte Aero 15, i7-7700HQ with 16GB ram running nVidia gtx 1060 6GB.

PD16 can handle basic cutting/cropping/adjusting clips on the timeline and preview works fine. But as soon as a LUT is applied, the whole preview becomes extremely laggy.

Is this expected? Currently I have to do all my basic fixes first and do the color correction/LUT at the very end right before "Produce". If I need to make any changes to the timeline, I have to undo all the color correction+LUT steps, make the time line changes and then re apply LUT and color correct again.

PD16 definitely "attempts" to use my nVidia card because I can see the GPU utilization hovers around 7-10% when CPU is on 60% ish.

GPU never goes over 10-12% which is a bit annoying but considering most laptop users cannot even get the GPU to do 1%, I'm not complaining too much.

Hi browniee112

The usual questions are......

Have you downloaded any PowerDirector updates?

Are your GFX card drivers uptodate?

Has your PD always behaved in this way? I know adding Luts and some col corrections while still in PD, is new ( hopefully it will improve as more updates are released ! )

I think the last patch, version PDR16 patch v.2313 did have issues with LUTS.
I've only just downloaded PDR16 beta patch v2503 to see how that handles. I'm experiencing some laggy issues during editing but that could just be my PC!

I usually wait until the end of editing to apply any colour corrections/luts etc. I do have a look to see if I can achieve the look I'm after, then save it as a setting. I must admitt that my PC isn't as powerful as yours and that's the main reason I work in this order.

Personally, I think the best way in Post Production is to edit first, have a quick go at fixing any colour issues/find your look and save the settings. Then fix colour later and keep renaming your project so you can always go back with out loosing anything. That's the ideal way but if youre anything like me, I want to have a look at how I can improve the image I'm working on and a quick teak in the audio first.

I've found that by adjusting some of the settings within my NVidia control panel, it has been possible to squeeze a little extra from my Nvidia GT 640. It can run upto 28%!
I found this link, it is for gamers but it still appears to work! Link : Nvidia control panel tweak There are other tweaks available out there.

Cheers
