I have version 13 of PD installed but when I go to update to 16 it says I don't have it on my comp. How to I install the update I paid for?

Since you have PowerDirector 13 installed, the upgrade should just install over it. What are the names of the files you downloaded? Did you download them all? What happens when you click on the installer? .

I only downloaded "1_CyberLink_PowerDirector16_Ultimate_Upgrade_VDE170925-02.exe " and tried to install. I open it as admin and it unpacks the file to temp. I click install and it says I have no earlier version of PD found and asks it I have an old key for the original install. I don't know what it is. I defently have a working version of 13 installed and I clicked the upgrade link that shows there is a Christmas upgrade deal at start up in PD13 to buy it.

It is possible that you may have a non registered or non retail version of PD13 like oem or other that does not need a key. The upgrade versions is for those with the earlier full retail versions. An oem version would have a free key but you still need to supply it when asked.
You can contact support for more help if you don’t have the PD13 key. It is available in your online Cyberlink profile if you ever registered it.
