Neither PD12 nor PD 15 will capture VHS tape from VCR.

Started with PD 12. Has One Touch Capture Connection. Using RCA(red, yelow & white) connectors from VCR output. Installed audio & video drivers and Power Director software. When try to capture VHS tape with TV signal never get any image from the VCR. If try to start recording I always get the Screen Message "CyberLink Power Director could not start the recording process. This may be due to: ...."

I have read many forums, made suggested settings and ran the small program to see if Windows 10 was the problem. It said I needed to upgrade to PowerDirector 15. So $50 later, i get the same results: No image from VCR and the message that it could not start the recording process. I can play MPG files, so guess I have the needed Modec (though I do have VLC also.)

Help.

Is that the one made by Diamond? It should have come with it's own capture software. Use that to capture the file. Then import to PD15. Intel i7 4770k, 16GB, GTX1060 3GB, Two 240GB SSD, 4TB HD, Sony HDR-TD20V 3D camcorder, Sony SLT-A65VK for still images, Windows 10 Pro, 64bit

See this sticky: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/50105.page#post_box_263484 . Go to the Capture Tab. Click the settings button the lower right and attach a screenshot of the full screen.

Yes, that is the one from Diamond, the One Touch Video Capture VC500. I agree it is supposed to capture the file, but doesn't do anything.

I have attached 3 screenshots from PD15 Capture screen. Item 1 of the error message is apparently what is happening. I have uninstalled and reinstalled PD12 many times. I have only installed PD15, because I got it from downloaded files and apparently they removed themselves after 3 days. i am to get a disk with PD15 installation files.

I do have Honestech's DVD to VHS 4.0. I installed that and the capture device works fine. I was able to make a DVD file of one VHS tape and import that into PD15. But that is extra time and more chance to foul things up. PD15 does not recognize that as a capture device. It auto detects my web cam when I try to use the Honestech caprture device.

When I get my installtion disk for PD 15, I think I will request my money back and just stay with PD12. Their excuse that PD12 capture didn't work because I was using Windows 10 was obviously wrong and the upgrade to PD15 was wasted money. Looks like 360 video is their big change and that's way beyond what i want to do.

I have not done the DirectX Diagnostic Tool. I will do that if you think it will help.

The screenshot of your settings Video page looks good. Check the following:

Assume that you live in the U.S. then the Settings/Analog Video Settings/TV Setup should be NTSC-M. The Yellow video connector connected on both the vcr out and the Diamond. The tapes should not be commercial or otherwise copy protected to be able to be captured with PD15.

The ez grabber software should work and those captures should import to PD15 and PD12 just fine.

Yes, I live in the U.S. Set to NTSC-M. Yellow is on VCR out and on the Diamond. Tapes are not commercial or copy protected.

Capture works fine on same tapes with the Honestech software.

Yes, the e-z grabber software should work, but it doesn't.

Check the properties of the capture device, most have a selection between S-Video and Composite, if you are using the yellow wire, you need to select Composite.

Also the sound comes via the white and red wires. Carl312: Windows 10 64-bit 8 GB RAM,AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz,ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB,240GB SSD,two 1TB HDs.

video from my VCR

Thank you to all those who tried to help me. I had already tried most of the suggestions. Today 2 things happened that now have me able to capture video from my VCR.

1) A new software update was released today for PD15. It did not mention that it had anything to do with using Capture, but I downloaded and installed it. Opened PD15 and Capture was now working.

2) I noticed that i was using the Honestech capture device. I had been using it with VHS to DVD 4.0 to capture video. Sinc it was working, I closed PD15 and attached the OneTouch Video Capture device from Diamond. But it would NOT work to capture video

Since I had previously not been able to Capture video using the Honestech capture device with PD 15 I assume:

a) Todays update corrected something in PD15 that affected capture, and

b) The One Touch Video Capture VC500 device from Diamond is defective. I do not know if they will refund any money or repolace it, but I will ask.

Anyway, I have passed the first hurdle and now can get started figuring out how to use the PD15 Edit materials. I tried the scene slpitter and that is very nice.

Thanks again to all of you who tried to help me.
