SGX problem?

I should start by saying ***I do not have my 4K TV yet***



I'm just using the Cyberlink Ultra HD Blu-ray Advisor and I'm running into an SGX problem.

It says SGX is not available but I'm positive it's on. This is my BIOS screen

I get my TV Tuesday. Don't know if not actaully having the TV connected has anything to do with it.

There is more than one problem on your screenshot. Without HDMI 2.0 capable monitor or TV you will never pass the test. Is your monitor currently connected to the integrated GPU or to a dedicated GPU in your PC? The SGX test may not show a correct result until other problems are solved too. Do not worry, when the TV arrives, it will be OK.

Okay, cool. I figured that might be the case. As far as how things were connected, I do have a GTX 970 installed but the HDMI was connected to the motherboard (CPU integrated graphics) not the graphics card. I ran into a new issue, though, while changing some settings in the BIOS. I set the option for the display to switchable ( http://imgur.com/lfGJejn ) and ran the test again and this was the result.

There's a new selction now by the SGX requirement and it brings up this error code

I put the settings back to how I originally had them for the first test ( http://imgur.com/vpwc85G ) and now I still get this result. I can't get the result I had the first time any more. Should I just stop doing this stuff til I get the TV? I was just trying to make sure everything was prepared.

I can repeat here what people said many times before: UHD BD playback on PC is definitely not a plug-and-play thing. Do not expect a success when you put a disc into the drive for the first time. It needs some adjusting before it starts to work properly. You will probably reinstall several drivers during the process, including Intel ME.

I am not familiar with Supermicro BIOS, but I would recommend to focus on the iGPU only in all the settings. Pretend not to have a dedicated GPU at all. You do not need to physically remove it, just disable it in BIOS. Use common sense; you are about to buid a highly protected video path and everything must go out of the way temporarily. Only one primary display, only one GPU.

Did you install the SGX utility from Supermicro page? .

I did the download from their site and the program immediately said I already had it and it closed the program.

I guess that had somthing to do with it! I just went into the BIOS and disabled SGX and ran the test, then shut it down, then enabled SGX again and everything looks GOOD!!!!!!

Okay, it works again........

I don't know why except maybe because I saw there was a 2.0 version of the Advisor and I downloaded that.

But.......it says my TV isn't compatible. Because of the HDCP 2.2 and HDR. I don't know why......I'm pretty sure my TV has that....

Meanwhile you may try to connect and disconnect the HDMI cable several times. The so-called HDMI handshake does not always work correctly between two devices. .

Okay. My SGX isn't working again. Is it possible that I'm having a Cyberlink problem??? Or is it more likely that I'm having a motherboard problem? Because I'm not sure if I need to do an RMA. My SGX is DEFINITELY on and it's been recognized several times. I just doesn't seem to last long.

" Intel SGX platform service fails for DAL communication failure if you repeatedly use the service over 40 hours. "

Also the Cyberlink SGX test fails if you run more than one copy of the Advisor.

That may acccount for why SGX starts working again after resetting the entry in the BIOS. I can see why Cyberlink needed to use protected memory to implement UHD Blu-Ray playback, because of the DRM issues, but having a dependency on SGX to implement it seems like a significant weakness.

I have hit the issue you reported in an earlier post. SGX is giving 'Not Available' in the Cyberlink Blu-Ray Advisor with Error Code -394264569.

I was using UltraHDBlu-rayAdvisor_1313_BD_CDT170123-01 and that always gave me a PASS on the SGX test.

Since switching to what I thought was a later version UltraHDBlu-rayAdvisor_1619_BD_CDT170309-01 I am getting that weird error message.

Intel SGXPlatformCapabilityToolv.0.1.1.0 always reports that my platform has SGX enabled, even when the Cyberlink SGX test reports the weird error message. I raised a case with Cyberlink about the issue and provided all the requested debug info. Nothing back so far.

Which Cyberlink Advisor version are you currently running, the one you reported as Version 2 and where did you download it from ?

OK I see what's going on now. I've done nothing to my system this morning and Cyberlink UHD Blu-Ray advisor is giving SGX - PASS. It must be that the Advisor is contacting Cyberlink's site to determine the outcome of that test. There's no other explanation. Yesterday, it wasn't working, even after a reboot.

Hi. My Advisor version is 2.0.11219.r46508 . I ran the test several times last night trying to get SGX to work and couldn't​ get it. I ran the test just now after walking up and it passes the test. I didn't change anything between running a successful test and the previous failures. I'm ​not doing anything with DAL (actually don't know what it is) and my PC is shut down daily. I only have the one Advisor. No duplicates. HDR and HDCP, however, still did not work.

Thanks for the info about the Advisor version you are using. Now that I have seen SGX FAIL, then PASS without making any changes to the system, I'm going to assume that when it does fail, it's because there is some interaction with Cyberlink's site, maybe it relies on a response from their server.

To get HDR, you need a connection from the motherboard that supports HDMI 2.0 and your display must supprt HDR

HDR won't work over HDMI 1.4.

To pass Cyberlink's UHD blu-ray test You need to get HDCP 2.2 for the GPU/Display combination.

I can get the GPU/Display HDCP 2.2 test to pass when connected to my Panasonic 4K TV.

I'll never get HDR, because the Asus Z270F motherboard's port is HDMI 1.4 (Don't care about HDR at the moment).

Cool. It's good to know yours is working. I guess that's it as far as SGX is concerned. I guess I'll have to get with Supermicro or Vizio about HDR and HDCP. For reference, my mobo supports both but maybe I have some settings wrong or something.

Someone asked if it supports HDMI 2.0a and their response was no. I looked at the PowerDVD 17 requirements and this is apparently necessary.

I still believe your setup is OK and you do not need to RMA anything. All the motherboards in question are Z270s with KabyLake CPUs. If a manufacturer says something about HDMI in a manual or on the website, it is always HDMI 2.0, not 2.0a. I do not know any motherboard claiming to have HDMI 2.0a (or b).

I spent several days before I managed to successfully play a movie for the first time. And even after that, SGX or HDMI sometimes does not work. Remember - this is just a temporary solution until compatible GPUs become available.

Can you play standard Blu-ray discs? Did you try to google few advices about the HDMI handshake? The connected devices can sometimes forget the handshake - then you must unplug the cable, wait for a while and plug it back. What also makes the difference is whether or not the devices are ON or OFF when you are plugging in the cable and what side of the cable you plug in first. I am just recalling what I read elsewhere, I can't give you an exact advice.

As Whirlpool said, SGX switches OFF automatically after some time. This may be true, at least my personal observations support this theory.
