Hi all! This is just an introductory announcement really .....

I wanted to say that I am pleased to be a new user of PowerDirector 15 Ultimate, alongside which I have also acquired ColorDirector 5 Ultra and AudioDirector 7 Ultra. They all seem very good and I look forward to getting to grips with the new software.

By way of background, in November last year, I purchased Corel's VideoStudio Ultimate X9, largely because I have a couple of other Corel products, including Paintshop Pro X9. I have been using PSP since long before it was taken over by Corel, upgarding steadily over the years, and I have been very pleased with it's performance. I wanted a reasonably featured video editor so it seemed to make sense that I should stay with the same 'stable', hence the purchase of VideoStudio Ultimate X9. Unfortunately, it was a disaster!

I had done my homework, comparing different manufacturer packages, and VideoStudio Ultimate X9 looked good in videos and got perfectly reasonable reviews. However, I could not even get it to run on my laptop! The purchase included both 64-bit and 32-bit versions but the the former would slow my laptop to a crawl when loading, and often end up crashing, whilst the latter was so slow as to just be unuseable.

My laptop is not a slouch, falling well within the published system requirements for VideoStudio Ultimate X9. I have Windows 7 Professional 64-bit SP1; an Intel Core i7 4700MQ CPU; 24Gb Dual-Channel DDR3 RAM; a 2047Mb NVIDIA GeForce GTX 765M graphics card; and 2 Kingston SSDs (447Gb and 223Gb).

But no matter what I tried I could not get VideoStudio Ultimate X9 to the point where I could even try to do anything with it. A couple of weeks to-ing and fro-ing with Corel's tech support and I was no further forward. Despite being given links to download the software from other sources, including a Corel cleanup tool, the result was always the same. In the end I threw my hands up in disgust and irritation and got a refund, consigning to history what was probably the most frustrating software installation/use experience I think I have ever had!

So, a couple of months later, I was ready again to look over what was available, check the reviews once more, and decide on a choice, and Cyberlink it was (there was also a great price and extas deal on the package!). It was with some trepidation that I started installing and registering the software. Once I started tinkering with it all, the trepidation was replaced with an overwhelming sense of relief ... and delight! It all works so well and so swiftly! Phew!

So there we have it, folks! I am a Cyberlink newbie and I am sure I will be back to these pages to seek out tips and tricks and who knows what else! I look forward to engaging with you all.

PS: Did anyone else here end up using PowerDirector because of a disatrous experience with Corel's Videostudio?

Hi there im pretty new too and liking Powerdirector and the forum. Im pretty handy with Photoshop but everything i read on the interweb was pretty consistent with ruling out Adobe, Corel and others as the best solution for video. Ive also liked Audiodirector, with a lot of scrubbing at the track I could isolate just the sound i wanted, and get rid of the kids arguing in the background. "I love editing. Bernoullis, welcome to the volunteer forum.
I did try Corel, it was on sale, and had integrated Smartsound. There was some I liked about CVS, and some I didn't. I found the layout of CVS to be too spartan, or barren, lacking in "personality". On top of that the response time was dreadful, click, wait, click, wait. I must say I just love PowerDirector and don't even bother seriously trying other NLEs anymore. All in for PD.

Barry,

I guess you might know you could use SmartSound in PowerDirector 15 if you had installed it from old version or you could get independent installer form somewherewink ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My experience with Corel was some time ago. As for Smartsound, I couseled a member here on getting the SS installer directly from Smartsound and it worked of course. I hope PD16 and onward allow us to have integrated SS even if the business deal between them has been abandoned. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

Keen, very keen! wink

I never even really got that far with Corel VideoStudio 9, but I sympathise! The disastrous experience I had with just trying to install and open it was what led me to being so twitchy about trying another package ..... but my fears were, thankfully, unfounded with PowerDirector 15. smile
