Basically i am a techno idiot, i have pd12 and have just converted some old vhs tapes to my computer but when they play back the edges are all blurry is there a way to edit the films so i can trim the edges?
I think you are being a little hard on yourself Dave, we are here to help, mostly with good results...
Those fuzzy edges from VHS are common.
In 4:3 mode with 4:3 video, simply pull the edges of the video so they go outside the boundaries of the view screen. Put the video file in the timeline and click on it to make it "live", then just pull on the little white dots just enough to get the fuzzy edges off the screen.
In 16:9, if you have a 4:3 video, you will need to mask the edges a teeny bit. Put the video file in a timeline and click on it to make it "live". Click DESIGNER, then MASK DESIGNER. Choose your mask, then click, under the preview screen, the little box on the right side, to open the mini-menu, and untick SNAP. Now adjust the mask to cover the fuzzy edges.
I might suggest, when all is done, to place your 4:3 video into a 16:9 project, centered, that way viewers on a TV do not have to alter the aspect ratio of the TV to watch it without cutting off top and bottom.
I do not have 12 installed anymore so there might be differences in the UI but the ideas are the same. With Powerdirector there are several ways to skin this cat, so you may hear from other members with other ideas.
