Trust me, sooner or later you will want to go beyond PD 12, and then you'll regret not building a future proof machine. If I were you I would bite the bullet now and go for the best you can afford.

The latest versions of PD are are power hungry especially if you edit 4K (you will one day - oh yes you will)

I'll let the experts suggest a build for you, but an i7 processor will be a good start paired with no less than 16 Gb of Ram, and, oh yes, a good sized SSD will help a lot.

I can only agree with you Robert! Better be prepared for the future because editors get hungry as well and want always more effects if they are creative!

ok guys, i completely understand that i'm way behind in PC technology. I simply don't have the money to spend on a high end PC. So let me explain in more details.

i have an OLD computer! about 6 yrs old.. i know. But, i am able to run PD12 just fine with 1080p video files. All videos on my youtube channel have been done with PD12 (youtube.com/ismaelrodriguez45)

THE PROBLEM: it's just a bit slow. and when i add a 4k video file, shadow files takes forever! so i mostly do 1080p, which is fine with me, i'm not creating blockbuster movies lol.

in the 6yrs i've had this PC i never upgraded anything, PC parts are expensive (for me). so i think that if i upgrade at least the CPU and the memory.. it should be faster than what im currently using. again, it wont be the latest and greatest, but at least better. i know, its like buying a PS2 at a time when PS4 is out.. im late, i get it.

My PC Specs:

AMD Athlon II X4 630 2.81GHz

nvidia geforce gtx 570

6 GB (RAM)

Windows 7 ultimate 64bit

On the PD12 box, it recommends a AMD FX series, but from what ive read online my motherboard wont support it. so i think the fastest CPU i can get is the AMD phenom II x6, would that be fine?

and i think i should upgrade my RAM to 8gb instead of 6.

my budget is $200, i know that's joke, but i'm sure there's some users here who use PD with some older PC just fine.

these pcs sucks up reasonable electricity, just add your OS w7 ultimate which supports up to 2 cpus.

if these comps doesn't come with a GPU then use yours till you get a better one-> GTX 1050Ti ($140).

Check ebay & for under $1,000-- you can find 3 year old off lease dual Xeon Dell pro workstations with lots of RAM and professional level GPUs & reliablility hard drives.

Add a small Samsung SSD for the OS drive & you're set to go.

The ones I have bought have never let me down as far as video editing.
