i sent the mesg below to the technical support people last week, but so far haven't received a reply, so i thought i'd see if anyone in the forums could help me faster. i would like to know asap so i could take advanatge of the special they are running for the purchase. thanks in advance.

i am very interested in purchasing your power director 15 director suite. my question revolves around what you show for go pro compatibility. when i looked at that, all it showed was hero 2 & hero 3. i have a hero 4 black & a hero 5 black. it would seem to me that for all of your other advancements (it appears you have covered nearly all the bases), that this being your latest release, you would support these later iterations of gopro cameras. i am hopeful that them not being shown is more an oversight than reality - before i make my purchase, can you verify that the files produced from these cameras will work with your program?thank you very much. i hope to hear from you very soon so i can take advantage of your valentine's day special.

This is what is listed for PowerDirector 15.

GOPRO Hero 2 Hero 3 Black/Silver/White Hero 3+ Black/Silver/White Hero 4 Black/Silver

Nothing about Go Pro 5

Did you look at the files that you get from those GoPro camcorders vs what Power Director will handle?

admittedly, i didn't look at the file types. as far as i know, what i have seen is an mp4. i am new to video trying to get my feet wet. i have done digital photography since 2001, & was wanting to start producing some video to incorporate into my portfolio. i'm certain that there is a pretty sharp learning curve that i'm going to have to go thru. looks like it starts here, eh?

i figured all gopros probably generated the same type of file, so it struck me a little odd that they were only listing the older models. could it be that an mp4 from, say, a hero 4 black might be different than an mp4 from the new hero 5 black?

i just looked at my email & see that i finally got a reply from support - here is part of their reply:

For GoPro Hero 5 Black, I would like to inform you that according to the camera spec, the video taken by GoPro Hero 5 Black should be able to be edited but there would be no lens correction for this specific camera so far.

not sure if you can answer my next question, but maybe someone can - what exactly would it mean to me if i wasn't able to do lens correction? would that be referring to the fisheye affect? & i assume if that is the case that they must be referring to correction within their own program? in other words, would a plug-in that had the capability work until/if they add that feature to the feature set?

steve - thank you very much for your reply. i'm sure to have many more questions as i go thru my learning curve.

Gopro may have a lens correction set up or you can do your own if the older one for GoPro 4 doesn;t work.

(May be duplicate - corums are acting up again.) .

Hi JP* -

As was suggested by CL Support, there are no compatibility issues with PDR15 & GoPro Hero 5. Recording specifications are similar to the Hero 4, with only some minor frame rate differences.

You may be aware that the Hero 5 also has built-in Fisheye Distortion Correction. Using that may negate the need to apply lens correction in post. GoPro Studio has the lens correction profiles needed, in any case.

Cheers - Tony

You may download the free trial to test your clips.

Personally I have Hero 4 black and works perfectly, PowerDirector has Action Camera Center with all the features GoPro needs.

I wouldn't be concerned. Just go ahead and purchase PD15. If you have problems or don't like it for any reason, you can return it for a full refund within 30 days. After 30 days, no joy, but before that, no questions asked. I've returned one PD edition (to purchase another, but that wasn't even mentioned) that way and know of others who've done the same. Regards,
Dan
