I'm using PD14 on Windows 10. It was working ok before Windows 10, but now this happens:

First I record audio with PD14's Voice-Over Recording Room. That of course lays down a track of what I said. It plays fine and sounds fine in PD14. If I select the track and then select Edit Audio/WaveEditor or Edit Audio/AudioDirector then I get an error in the other application. It worked before I switched to Windows 10, but now in WaveEditor it just says "Files not imported" and in AudioDirector 6 it says "An error ocurred while opening this file in the media library. It may be because the file is broken or is in an unsupported format. Try contacting your audio provider for a different audio format." The file format is of course WAV because that has always been what PD13 and PD14 have created when I capture audio in the PD editor.

How can I get these WAVs fixed and loadable in WaveEditor and/or AudioDirector? The only help I found was to "update QuickTime" which I have alredy tried.

I just tried recording inside AudioDirector 6 after it failed to load the WAV file that PD14 created. I overwrote the original, and it automatically saved it properly when switching back to PD14. I can hear it play fine in PD14. Telling the SAME track to go back into AD6 to edit it again gets the same "can't load" error. I just used AD6 to make the file, but I can't load it back in afterward. :/

Is Windows Media Player working? Can you open the WAV file in Windows Media Player? Carl312: Windows 10 64-bit 8 GB RAM,AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz,ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB,240GB SSD,two 1TB HDs.

BTW
I was able to finally edit the file by doing this crazy sequence that I would not want to need to do again, so I still want to get this fixed:

1) I created a separate PD14 project with just this WAV file. I produced a video with it, into an MP4 format.

2) I put the produced MP4 into a second project. At first I tried to click WaveEditor on it (because I want to do a Pitch Shift and AudioDirector does not give the same results) but it would not load because it thought the MP4 was a WAV. So instead I used AudioDirector to load the MP4. I exported it as an MP3.

3) I imported the MP3 into WaveEditor and tried to do my Pitch Shift and save it. It would not save the MP3 with the changes, so instead I exported a WAV from WaveEditor with the Pitch Shift done.

4) I imported the WAV into PD14 and finally I had the audio I wanted.

Oh... also... the WAV that I exported out of WEaveEditor from all this... it will not reload into WaveEditor or AudioDirector anymore.

Hi Felbourn -

I can't replicate the issue here on Win10 or Win7.

In each test I used the default audio profile setting - PCM 48000kHz 16 Bit Stereo 187kb/sec. The created WAV files landed in the timeline & I sent them to both ADR & WE for editing. After adjustment, the files were returned to PDR with the (0) suffix added to the file name.

You're right - you shouldn't have to go through all that hoop jumping. It wouldn't have helped the quality of your audio anyway.

Could you post the MediaInfo report of the properties of the original recorded file? One of my test files is attached (report).

Cheers - Tony

How about a whole WAV of me saying "testing 1 2 3" inside PD14 Recording Room, that does not load into WE version 2.0.0.5620 after I select Edit Audio?

I tested your WAV in PD 14, Audio Director 6 and WaveEditor 2. It works in all applications.

I opened it in Powerdirector, put the Girl with Ballons on track 1 video and your audio file on Track 1 audio, Edited in Audio Director, returned to Powerdirector correctly.

I think you have a problem with your system. I have no idea what part is failing. A reinstall of Powerdirector Suite 4 may fix it.

Clean out the install first, then install Director Suite 4.

Both WaveEditor and Audio Director are supposed to have their own CODECs. You may have a broken install, all of the parts did not install correctly. Carl312: Windows 10 64-bit 8 GB RAM,AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz,ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB,240GB SSD,two 1TB HDs.

Yea, it must be broken. I recorded a clip directly inside WaveEditor. That clip did not auto-import so I tracked it down in my C:/user/name/music folder and told it to import. It failed. I'll try a clean install.

I removed all traces of CyberLink, as far as I know. I installed PD14 and nothing else. I did not install AD, or any patches, or any extras. It was: install PD14, start, type in 'reg key', record "testing 1 2 3", try Edit Audio. It failed.
The file I used to install was: 1_CyberLink_PowerDirector14_Ultra_####.exe
I'll look up what you mean by "PD Suite 4" now, but also... is there any file that is needed from Windows that may be broken and I can delete/install? You said it has its own Codec... but is there anything it does not have?

EDIT Ohhh DS4 is a whole other product. Yes, I only needed video editing when I bought PD12. I have upgraded into PD14 since then, and recently also did the trial version of AD6. I don't have DS4.

Can PD14 or WE2 be made to record into a different format than WAV? I can't find any options that say what format to export. I was at least able to open MP3 files, if I could record as MP3 in the first place. I kind of need an easier workaround that that sequence I illustrated above, until it's truly fixed.

Hi Felbourn -

Like Carl, I had no issues with your "Testing 1-2-3" audio clip. I tested it on both Win7 & Win10, which makes me think your issue is not directly related to the OS.

Your clip imported into both ADR & WE & back to PDR. Perplexing problem!

PDR, ADR & WE all record in PCM, but you can export the track in different formats. e.g. WaveEditor > File > Save Track As... .wav, .wma, .mp3, or .m4a ADR can produce those too, as well as .flac & .ape

Back to your issue of .wav files created in PDR being unreadable by ADR or WE, I have no idea what that the issue might be. Your "Testing 1-2-3" clip has exactly the same properties as those I've recorded here.

Cheers - Tony

Yea I can play the WAV in everything *except* WE and AD.

What is this "export as" you're talking about? I'm totally blind or something. The only export I found was on the File menu and was not it.

EDIT P.S. of course the aqnswer cabn't be to move it to WE and then export since I can't load WAV into WE in any way, not even the ones I record while inside WE.

Ah! Your screenshots are from PowerDirector.

My example above was from WaveEditor, meaning if you record the audio using WaveEditor (not PDR) you can export is as WAV, MP3, M4A, or WMA

If you record in AudioDirector, you'd need to produce the audio clip if you wanted it in a different format.

All that aside, you should be able to do what you've been attempting - record in PDR/Capture then transport the WAV file to WE or ADR for editing. It's got me baffled.

Cheers - Tony

I can't find any proof it's a problem with PD14 directly. It's some kind of WE2 and AD6 problem reading any WAV file no matter what the source. They must share a DLL that is not functioning. I don't know which DLL or I'd replace it. I also can't seem to find any LOG files to examine more details about the errors. I can show you an 18-second video of me demonstrating the problem entirely inside WE2; no PD14 involved.

Agreed - that's crackers!

WE cannot even import a WAV file it created itself! surprised

I'm afraid we need to call the big guns in here - I don't have a clue, I'm sorry.

Cheers - Tony

If you completly removed Powerdirector 14, you should also remove WaveEditor 2. Powerdirector and WaveEditor are separate removes.

A stand alone Audio Director 6 should also be removed.

After a Re-boot of the computer, you should the install Powerdirector 14, when asked to install WaveEditor, say Yes or OK, also approve the Smartsound install, if asked.

Then Install Audio Director 6.

You may be asked to activate the programs, Do so.

Then come and tell us the results. Carl312: Windows 10 64-bit 8 GB RAM,AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz,ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB,240GB SSD,two 1TB HDs.

Actually what you said is what I already tried once. I removed all traces of CyberLink, as far as I know. Everything. I installed PD14 and nothing else. I don't recall it asking me if I wanted WE. It did ask for SmartSound, and I had said yes. Even though I had removed WE first, it was there again after the PD14 reinstall. I did not install AD, or any patches, or any extras. It was: install PD14, run it, type in 'reg key' again, record "testing 1 2 3", try Edit Audio. It failed.
The file I used to install was: 1_CyberLink_PowerDirector14_Ultra_####.exe
The ### is a number long-ish number.
