Jeff, did you use hardware acceleration in your test? I gave the worst case with no HA. Of course the speed of the computer makes a difference also. Carl312: Windows 10 64-bit 8 GB RAM,AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz,ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB,240GB SSD,two 1TB HDs.

It is interesting that Jeff show a produced screenshot to show that he can produce a 200 min. avchd video in 2.77x realtime. I just tried a 5 min. 9 sec. mixed clip test project produced to 1080/60i 16Mbps m2ts. It took 4 min. 27 sec. with QS, 4 min. 58 sec. with cpu rendering. svrt is not available. This is 1.16x and 1.04x realtime respectively. I would think that he checked HA with the nvidia 970. I see a good reason here to buy a gtx 960 here.

In the past I created 3 hour BD in less than 1 hour using svrt. A 1 min. timeline with 16mp photos could take several minutes to produce. It depends on the material on the timeline, the number of tracks, and enhancements used. I can see taking 7 hours to produce a video depending on the complexity and the material used.

Not knowing the hardware information requested earlier is a big unknown to try to give an accurate answer.

The computer speed is the only significant player for CPU encoding, so yes, it does make a big difference. Worst case, I don't think so, for a low end laptop/desktop, 7 hrs could very well be the norm. Simply based on CPU capability. My point was, playback duration means nothing in relation to encoding speed.

As I said in the thread, "with full CPU encoding/rendering", so no GPU hardware encoding utilized. No GTX970, no GTX960, just the plain old robust CPU encoding.

So, I have watched about 6 tutorials, and still, very confused about all the chaptering stuff.

Is there an EASY way to simply take two videos on a time line, produce/render it, and then make a DVD without chapter names and all that fancy stuff? Would Easy editor or Express Project help me? It seems like the latter two have built in default "effects" that I dont want added..

1) Put video 1 in the timeline
2) Put video 2 in the timeline after it
3) Go to "Create Disc"
4) Select "Menu Preferences" tab
5) Go to bottom and select "No Menu" and "Apply to All Pages"
6) Select "2D Disc" tab, set DVD
7) Select "Burn in 2D"
8) Select "Burn to disc"
9) "Start Burning"

JL: Thanks for the easy sure steps to make a DVD.
Can you please tell me what steps to take to make a simple wmv or mp4 file? I am slowly adjusting to this new editing program. I appreciate your help.

I'm a little confused on request as you indicated you know how to "Produce" a video previously in the thread and optodata helped you find your produced file. However, the attached pic walks you through the steps.

The approach is the same for MP4 file or any other file one wants to "Produce", most common MP4 format would be in the H.264 tab and the little drop down underneath controls "M2TS", "MP4", or "MKV" containers.

The quality you select really depends on what you are doing with the “Produced” file. For example, one would not select the same wmv profile to mail someone a small lower quality file compared to displaying my wmv on a large meeting room projector.

Thanks Jeff, when I produced the other video, it was sort of through luck -- and of course watching tutorials -- but the tutorials go too quick through the stops sometimes!
So, I need to produce videos to air on Cable TV, so, I gather from your comment that I should produce wmv format.

No, I didn't imply nor write that wmv is a good format for Cable TV broadcast. Consult your broadcast company and see what they require, some are rather particular, and most likely, not a wmv format.

Actually, three of the companies accept WMV, MP4 and Mov. However, the fourth one will actually broadcast the show in HD while the other three do not have that capability yet.

I ran into a glitch today while removing parts of a movie. Once I remove it, whether I choose to fill gap or not, the sound waves will not sync correctly. Any thoughts about that? I have about 40 clips on the time line, so maybe its on overload or something?

Hi Angela,

Please start a new topic when you have a new question that is not related to the former question.
Many of your questions have nothing to do with Your topic "7 hours two trenches 40 minute HD video, is this normal ???"

That way others will be able to find answers to their quistions when they are searching the forum.

You have so many different issues in this post that it is bewildering for other forum members. undecided

Thanks in advance smile

Yes, I echo Anja's advice there. This new question you've now posed is more to do with editing rather than rendering(producing).

Cheers!

Neil.

Sounds like you have the answer for which format to use from the companies, looks like they accept WMV which I didn't think they would. It is a little vague to me as WMV, MP4, and MOV all support a HD profile. Maybe you are implying create a SD resolution for 3 companies in WMV, MP4 or MOV and a HD resolution for the 4th in WMV, MP4 or MOV.

Can you post two pics of your timeline, a pre and post removal so one can get a feel for your issue and editing situation.

Not sure on terminology to assist in some way
cut off = BSOD?, encoding stopped?, PD14 crashed?
finalization = PD14 "Produce" tab option?, DVD/BD disc creation?, end of Editing?

Several things can often cause PD14 to have a issue during "Produce" or "Create Disc", a few possible items I've had issues with over the years.
a) video format compatibility issue, some video needs to be converted
b) "Power Tools" video speed adjustment
c) some applied FX at times when certain settings are used in PD pref
d) some titles, especially if very long text in them
e) some audio tracks, mp3 in particular

If this "cut off" happened during PD "Produce" operation I'd watch the timeline counter when the issue occurred and start looking at the timeline at the same timecode for possible items that may have caused the issue. Copy to a new project and trim to just this area and try to "Produce" section and see if issue can be localized.

So Jeff, why does it have to be so complicated? In order to not have to spend so many hours waiting and then having the video production process JUST STOP (unfortunately I didn't screen shot it) I now took a much shorter part and copied it into a new file and produced it fine. HOWEVER, the stills didn't get produced, they were "ignored." Any idea what causes this to happen? Thanks. Angela ((

A lot of video/pic/audio formats available, PD simply not compatible with everything. Yes, editing can be extremely time consuming, more so on underpowered PCs but a high end PC not in everyone’s budget.

A pic of your timeline would be very helpful to try and assist you. "Ignored" pics could be on a track that you disabled, this is just one one of many possibilities. Disabled track shown in the attached pic.

Remember, your audio/music tracks are running paralell with your video track. If you simply "split" the video, your corresponding audio tracks running paralell will be fine. If you "cut" chunks of video out, the same size chunk(s), will be cut from your audio. Or, maybe I misunderstood you.
