Burning bluray discs-solved

I am still using pd11 and I love the program however my bluray discs are never as sharp as when I use other programs to author a disc. They have a mild background grain. I resorted to producing a file in PD and then authoring a bluray with an old version of Pinnacle studio 14. The video is cleaner this way.

My question is does PD 14 author sharper bluray video than PD 11? Also if I produce a video in surround sound in PD and then author a disc in another program will the disc be in surround sound the way I directed the sound to each speaker when I produced the video file? I am planning to purchase Power direction suite so I can author 5.1 bluray discs but I am concerned that I may still have to author using another program. I rather do everything in PD.

thanks,

HT

You could try the MPEG-2 format on PD's BluRay disk tab of the Create Disk Module.

MPEG-2 is a bit sharper because of less compression than H.264. (Also uses more space).

As always, the original material makes a difference in the final output. Carl312: Windows 10 64-bit 8 GB RAM,AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz,ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB,240GB SSD,two 1TB HDs.

Hi Carl

I am shooting avchd with my Panasonic camcorder.

I did try the mpeg-2 bluray and it was a little better. But I get the sharpest video by producing a avchd video file in Pd. Then I author using my old Pinnacle studio 14 program. But when I do this I have combined all my audio into one audio track and can't direct each sound track to the speakers I want in 5.1 surround.

You really need to post your pinnacle studio problems in the pinnacle forum to get help. PS14 std. edition does not support 5.1. The plus edition does if you pay that $10 for the codec. It is free in all the higher and later editions.

avchd quality in poor in ps14 because smart rendering is not used. avchd quality can be perfect in PD14, that is without re-rendering for those who know what they are doing.

Hi Tomasc

I am sorry if I didn't make myself clear. I don't have a Pinnacle studio question. I just want to know if a file was produced in PD with 5.1 surround sound and that file is placed in the timeline in PD or another disc authoring software program will the disc play the audio portion in surround sound as coded in the file. For instance if the video file has a explosion that is heard only from the rear speakers will it play that way if the file is used when authoring a disc.

The other question is more clear. What are my bluray disc sharper when I author them in Pinnacle than in PD

thanks

I remember answering a post from you that went to maybe 40 threads and finally you got a good BD without the color shimmer as you put it maybe 3 years ago. You can look over the same post for your answer.

Something changed for you since that time. Look at this post answered recently by a senior contributor. You may find your answer here: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/46112.page .

Here is another post answered by the same senior contributor that once had a problem similar to yours. Look 10 threads from the bottom. You may find your answer here too: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/46031.page .

If any of this helps let us know and what changed between 3 years ago and now that you can't have a sharp BD created by PD11 anymore.

PS: Mild background grain or noise seen in low light can be smoothed over with Fix/Enhance/video noise reduction in PD11.

I did lots of experiments and my best bluray disc was when I burned in H.264 not MPEG 2. It didn't matter if I used smart fit or not. Smart fit helped a little with MPEG 2 burns. I burned all with 5.1 surround sound. Enable Hardware decoding was not an available option on any of my burns.

I also burned AVCHD on DVD discs. They were all clear no matter what the setting.

I think you were correct about the grain being caused by low light and not a fault of the burning. I think I was at fault in some of my judgement as to the quality of the discs and I was viewing them at different times and may have been compairing them to uncompressed antenna HD TV signal which is super sharp.

Thanks for your help
