PowerDirector 12: Disc menu text disappearing & odd formatting
[Post New]
I had reached out to tech support on this, but they're not really bothering with trying to understand my issue. I even created two videos to clearly demonstrate what's going on, but it doesn't look like they even tried to watch them based on their latest response to me. So I'm trying out the forum...hello everyone! I did update to whatever the latest version the day this started to happen, but I don't see any other people posting about this issue after updating, so not sure if the update and this issue(s) are correlated. I'm running on version 12.0.4210.0.

Issue #1: I am having issues with the disc menu preview tool where you can edit the menu title text. While the text shows up properly formatted in the editor, when I click the "Preview" button that opens a sort of player and goes through the intro video and loads the menu, I am unable to see the menu text. I even tried to burn a Blu-ray to see if it was just a quirk with the preview mode, but unfortunately the text does not show up on the burned copy either. Only in the Chapter menu(s) is text visible. (VIDEO link)

Issue #2: I then tried to reset the menu template I was using and start fresh. This seems to solve the disappearing text issue, but now the menu text has character spacing that is very open and although the font size is the same, the text appears very long (i.e. the kerning seems to be all messed up). I tried to edit the menu template, but the "Modify" button is not clickable for the template that I need. (VIDEO link)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The two YT videos show some issue with that menu. Please attach a Dxdiag.txt on your pc for others to see . Replicated some of what is shown. The wide text problem exist at least on the last two builds for the cinematic menu.

@tomasc Thanks for the response. Although it's unfortunate that it's the case, but there's some comfort knowing the issue has been replicated by someone else. I have attached the requested DxDiag.txt file, hopefully it's of use.

The cinema menu is located at c:\Program Files\Cyberlink\PowerDirector12\Menus\Cinematic\. I have only the updated version and cannot find someone locally who has your old version to compare. I beleive a change needs to be made in the Layer Template.xml file because the root video overlay on top of the text active layer covering it in the version shown in your 1st YT video. You can modify this menu. The Audio, background, buttons, etc are all there in the folders. Make a copy of the original first. You have a legitimate issue that support could have escalated I beleive. You can try this: Go to Preferences/Hardware Acceleration/ Leave both boxes unchecked and preview the old menu to see if the old version previews correctly.

Tried to create with the cinema menu something that is closer to what you want. I changed the fonts for my default AR BONNIE 28pt. in mine to Niagara Solid 24pt. for the root title and it looks closer in spacing when compared to your old one. Changed the font in the scenes menu for the 1st 5 selection. The last one is untouched for comparison.

See the menu pages below:

Need help to modify this menu. Found this post concering the cinematic menu 2 years ago: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/30292.page;jsessionid=15046F77F1FC38ACB14E1E7459C631B1 .

Let us know if this helps...

Thanks for your effort and response @tomasc, much appreciated I've spent the last week or so troubleshooting to no avail, support did end up responding, but they said they weren't able to replicate the issue, so they suggested an uninstall and re-install. I tried it without and unfortunately it did not fix either issue. I just don't know how the spacing in characters would have changed, even when I uninstalled and used my original install media to install PowerDirector 12 (without any patches), the spacing issue was present, so not sure if there are some lingering files that aren't being deleted and referenced upon reinstallation. The disapearing text issue is present when using existing PD project files that previously worked fine; only newly created projects work to fix the disappearing issue (though not in terms of the character spacing). So I think I'm going to throw in the towel and just try to live with it. But thanks again for your input, happy editing!
