unable to drag music to the music track

i am a new pd13 user. Up front let me say I have NEVER encountered so many problems with a program. I have written to support multiple times. I do get a response however, I have not been sipuccessful with any of it. I do not understand how a program can have this much trouble, people writing for help..on and on. I am so disappointed with it I am about to abort.

I have lost countless hours trying to use it and then trying to fix it and now trying to read all o f the suggestions here.

now to my music question:

i want to put music on part of the video, on the music track. I went to magic music, picked the song, the instructions say: drag the music to the track. The music does not drag....

i used this successfully prior, but the instructions were different. I could see the mini track symbol, to allow the music to be placed at a certain spot. I don't see that now.

i am beyond frustrated. I have a job to complete and my deadline has long passed.

I am not a computer techie but I am pretty good at it.

this is only one of my problems. Deborah Babin-Artist

Hi Deborah -

SmartSound tracks can only be inserted in the Music or Voiceover tacks. If you try to drop them in a regular audio track, you'll be "blocked". That may be the problem you're having.

Try this:

  1. Put the timeline marker where you want the music inserted

  2. Open Magic Music - set the duration - select the track and variant you want

  3. Right click on it & select "Add to Music Track"

See attached screenshot.

If that's not the issue, we'll have to try something else. Can you also post a screenshot of your timeline with Magic Music open?

Cheers - Tony

Hi Deborah & Tony

Is Deborah trying to drag down a WHITE coloured title which I believe are subscription.

I tested it and the blue ones drag as they should, but the white ones do not.

Is it possible that your successful attempt was with a blue title? Panny TM10, GH2, GH4,

do you mean the name in the column is blue?

yes, i wasn't clear on music choices so i used smart sound. Those are probably the subscription?? But, this is not stated, that I can see.

no big deal, I'll use the blue ones. What ever is easier!!! I am so far behind I'll do what it takes.

the other huge issue i have is the program suddenly closes. I have the settings for save every 2 minutes...so, so far, when I open the video project again, it has been saved. I figured that out eventually but not before I lost tons of work time and effort.

Thank you for your input. Deborah Babin-Artist

I do have another question:

After the music is on the music track....

I place it right next to the audio, hoping that the music will start there. But, it doesn't start until a few seconds later even though the track is placed right next to the audio.

I want a transition from voice to music without a gap. Deborah Babin-Artist

if you would like the forum members to help you with the PD crashing problem, you would need to upload a copy of the DxDiag file for your machine. There is a need to ascertain where the weakness is, and that file could be the key.

So far as the music is concerned, would you be able to post a screenshot of the problem tracks.

I know this all takes your valuable time, but in the longer term it will help you Panny TM10, GH2, GH4,

Deborah, re the music problem. After reading your post again, it sounds like you are putting the music to the right of the audio in the same track.

To achieve what I believe you want, you need to put the music in a separate track below. Then have the music very slightly overlap the audio. This way there should be no gap in the audio to music. Panny TM10, GH2, GH4,

I put the music in the music track below and inline with the voice over track (above). If I move the music slightly to overlap...the voice is cut off. I have removed the original audio in the audio track.

Expand the timeline and adjust it more precisely. You should be able to go from voice to music just as you require it without a problem. Have the audio in place and offer the music to it and adjust until it is right. Expanding the timeline will make it easier. Panny TM10, GH2, GH4,

I do not know how to expand the time line. When I see the two arrows and a clock....If I pull the clock to extend it (I think that is what will happen) the whole track moves.

What I want is the music to start at the end of the voice. I tried overlapping the music track and this cuts into the voice.

So, I need to know how to extend the time line. Deborah Babin-Artist

To expand the timeline click on the ruler, hold and drag to the right or click the + sign of the slider.

To mix two audios, each audio on a track or overlaps the end of audio 1 with the beginning audio 2, in the menu select Crossfade.

Thank you!

I have my voice over on the microphone track (above the music track). I have the music on the music track. Please explain why you have the tracks the way they are, ie. two # 1's, two #2's.

I am making a video demo, with voice over and music after the voice over ends.

Simple. Deborah Babin-Artist

If you have audio files (music and voice) can add to any audio track.

Voice over music, use any track, an audio below the other.

Adjust the volume of music, voice or two to get the best result.

If you look carefully at the sound tracks on Playsound's example, you see the lines (with dots) that represent the sound volume.

You will see that the line begins to slant down at the end this means that Playsound wants it to gradually fade out. Then look at the voiceover track and you will notice that the opposite occurs (a gradual fade in) So in this example as the top track fades out, at the same time the voiceover fades in. I think this is what you are trying to achieve.

Deborah -

I'm familiar with the audio glitch you've posted, where the other audio is interrupted at the beginning of the SmartSound track.

The workaround I use is to:

  1. Disable all other tracks except the SS track

  2. Produce to WAV or other audio only format

  3. Insert the produced audio file in the timeline (at the start)

  4. Remove the SS track.

In the bottom left corner of the screenshot, there's another way to expand the timeline.

Cheers - Tony

I understand SOME of this info. Not clear enough yet. I know its me...I truly appreciate all of this help.

here is a view of my current screen.

I have a demo (video)

V Over on track for voice

Music under that overlapped just a bit.

When it is played there with no sound between the voice over and music.

I want a smooth transition.

Here's what I would do.

Highlight clearVision in the music track. Now go to the audio room and find the music column. At the bottom of the column on the left you will see a triangle that is lighter than the one on the right, click on the left one and clear vision will fade in. Now because it is fading in you will need to move the track further to the left. Move it quite a lot at first and see if that is better. Keep moving clearVision right or left until you get the result you desire Panny TM10, GH2, GH4,

Hi Deborah -

While I was getting some screenshots ready, Robert (The Shadowman) has been on the job.

There are two screen shots attached. Deborah1 shows the steps I've suggested you take. Deborah2 shows what your modified timeline might look like.

Once you have the produced SS track in the timeline, there will be NO audio glitch. Promise!

Also attached - as MP3 for size - a produced version of "Clear Vision - Willow" which is pretty close to the right length. Insert it in your timeline just to see if you still have a hiccup.

It is seriously nothing you're doing wrong. It's a long styanding issue with SS tracks that overlap other audio clips.

Cheers - Tony

You can use transition (Audio / Constant Gain) at the beginning and end of each audio.

I do not have SmartSound installed so it could not replicate your problem here.

Now ynotfish showed in detail how to solve your case.

To further optimize use Produce Range to save only the audio, Clear Vision - Willow, then add this on the original.

Sorry everybody, I hadn't realised this was a known problem, I thought it was just a case of aligning the tracks that Deborah was having problems with.

I'll mind my own in future Panny TM10, GH2, GH4,
