all my bluray would play fine......until yesterday when it prompted me to install the #2216 patch..........now i get the same problem as you....

I just got the LG GGC-H20L yesterday. It has manufacture date of Sept 2008 with firmware 1.03. Try the LG site and see if there are any firmware updates available.

I installed the Cyberlink bundle that came with my drive and the first time I used PowerDVD it informed me of an update available.

Also, are you using the latest Catalyst driver for your Sapphire HD 3870? Version 8.10 I think is the latest.

Same here. Everything was fine until I installed then latest patch, now I just get a warning that PVD can't play protected content.

I have the newest drivers, versions, and firmware for all involved products.

This is a very common problem, and one that I respond to on several forums several times a week.

Your problem is that you're trying to playback a BD using your system in either dual(cloned) or multi-display mode. HDCP will not allow you to use 2 displays while playing a BD, which is why you're getting the HDCP compliance notice, the reason regular DVD's work fine, and the reason you've been beating your head against a wall trying to figure out why the stupid thing won't work right.

In order to use it with a notebook and external display, you need to use your external as the PC's Primary Display - then run PowerDVD with a BD. You shouldn't have any problems. The only other issues have been PowerDVD updates - if you don't have the latest update, you might have problems playing back some of the newer DVD's. Forget any "You need a firmware update" messages. One, you won't find one that you can use, and two, they've already solved the problem via a software update anyway.

I did as cyberlink asked.....i uninstalled all versions of "power dvd 8 ultra" on my pc and cleaned my system of any leftover pdvd8 files.
I then installed full version #2021 as well as the patch# 2217.

And i still get that damn digital content protection error message.
Fortunately for me i made an "acronis disc image" of my windows install with the BD working install of pdvd8Ultra......although this version still does not allow me to play disc 2 of my "iron man" bluray disc.

i just bought powerdvd 8 ultra and i can play the demo bluray that came with my drive but i can't play the movie forgetting sarah marshall. i press play and it says play in the top right but then it says stopped after a second. i press play again and select resume playing the movie and i get a black screen with 2 gray bars on the the sides. anyone else have this problem with a solution? thanks.

I've had nothing but problems when using the latest patches that my software has insisted that I DL from the Cyberlink site.

The patches BROKE my system, stopped PowerDVD from working and totally screwed up half of my weekend. And had you actually read and comprehended the content of this thread, you might have gleaned that most of the others participating in this thread were seeing similar issues, where the software stopped working subsequent to their installation of the patch.

Er, wrong again. it's the software update that actually caused the problem. That's made clear in the posts in this thread .... but no, you didn't seem to find it necessary to read them, did you? You're better than that, right?

My olevia 342i 42" lcd tv is HDCP compliant and it is the only monitor hooked to my "home theater pc"

Well my TV is the only display attached to my HTPC so Cybervisions is spouting a load of bull.

Cyberlink have totally screwed up with the last patch and the problem is, as usual, they won't admit there is a problem.

I reinstalled PDVD8 from my original download and lo and behold it worked fine. Installed the latest patch and guess what... PowerDVD can not play protected content blah blah blah.

Luckily I've still got 7.3 installed because I have a large collection of HD DVD's so apart from the odd BD title I'm not being affeted that much.

I gave up and installed AnyDvd.
The problem no longer exists.

I was thinking the same (Buying AnyDVD) but my wife shot that one down in a hurry. I tried to explain to her that I had software that wasn't working correctly so I needed another software program to make it work.

Maybe AnyDVD should come with PowerDVD.

there is no need of it........power dvd is an 80 dollar program.........they need to fix this.......to have to buy anydvd to fix a problem power dvd should fix anyway is not right.

I also used the software uninstall utility.
Then i installed the 2 power dvd programs in the links you sent me to.
#2021 full and the #2217 patch......but i still get the "not HDCP" compliant error message.
I know for a fact that all my equipment is HDCP compliant,
I am enclosing the BD advisor assessment.
All my bluray disc played back fine before i was prompted to install the latest power dvd 8 ultra update.
I was hoping after this latest update...i would be able to play my disc 2 extra feature disc from "iron man" which powerdvd has been unable to play so far.
there are no firmware updates for my asus bluray drive as i have already checked.
Please help me fix this problem so i can recommend cyberlink products to others in confidence they will be satisfied.

I managed to solve my problem........i uninstalled power dvd 8 ultra and deleted the cyberlink folders from C:/program files/cyberlink.
than i installed the cyberlink install PDVD8_2021U_DVD080814-02
weighs in at 104mb

so far all is well....even plays my iron man supplemental disc.....which it would not play before.
