PowerDriector 13 Hangs when importing 4k Video

This was working until the latest update to 13.0.2907.1. Now, when I import HD video, the import dialog quickly goes to 100%, and then the program hangs. No matter how long I wait, I finally have to kill it from the task manager.

The clip I am importing is 3840x2164, 25 frames per second, about 9 minutes long. It used to import into PD 13 (altough playback was jumpy) before the upgrade.

Any advice?

I searched PD 13 supported video formats and noted it mentioned PowerDVD supports 4K UltraHD video in H.264 / MP4 format at bitrates up to 60 Mbps, but I'm not quite sure about that. The best solution is to transcode your 4K video to PD 13 natively supported video format before importing.

Hi Selden ,
Always test another clip with the same spec but not as large a file, to see if the effects are the same when importing.
Please provide the spec on your computer and the full info on the media you're trying to import? Guides Part B and J apply. Guide: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/40225.page
Do you need to use Shadow Edit Files or can (have) they be unchecked in Preferences/General?
Where is the source file being imported from - local location address? Is the drive a USB or internal? Do you have sufficient processing capacity on your drives? Are they fast enough to perform the tasks of editing 4K footage?
Dafydd

I agree with everything the other posters have said, and another option would be to uninstall PD13 and then install the original version again and only apply the 2604 patch to see if the problem is actually caused by the 2907.1 patch. Please note that you'll need to have your license key available to access PD after reinstalling it.

OK, all good points, and I'll see if I can put together a list of specs on my machine.

However, here is something interesting that I discovered. If I first import a shorter clip from the same camera, it gets imported within a few seconds. Then, if I import the bigger clip that was giving me trouble before, it too gets imported within a few seconds. Then I can work with it.

Any ideas what is going on?

It may have to do with shadow files, but the most important thing for us to see are your PC's specs.

You don't need to dig around to find anything, please see the link in Dafydd's post and follow the instructions to generate and attach the results of the DxDiag test. That will tell us more than you'd ever (normally) want to know about your system's hardware and configuration

P.S. There won't be anything contained in the report that might be sensitive, it's really just displaying the guts of your computer in excruciating detail, not the contents of anything on it.

Thanks very much for posting the results

Your system looks OK to me and you have the latest nVidia driver for your GTX750Ti GPU. You've had lots of errors with something called "WPNConnectionFailure." For some reason, many of the recent DxDiag results coming from systems with AMD CPUs have this same error but I don't think it would be impacting your editing performance. If you wanted to try to fix that issue, you could run the SFC command to see if Windows can find and repair any problems. Here's a *description* of how to do that.

Now back to your original question. Please look at the suggestions the other posters have provided. Any one of those could point you to the answer for why PD is hanging when trying to import your clips. Try moving your clip to a different drive (if you have one) and importing from there. How much free space is available on all your drives? Have you tried uninstalling PD and just patching it to 2604, when it seemed to be working better?

If any of those solve the problem, please let us know. Going forward, your system is definitely powerful enough for HD editing but it may have difficulty with 4k clips so I think that turrning on shadow files will make a difference during editing. Please see this *thread* for more info on using them and let us know if that helps.
