Is 24 bit audio always downsampled? I have 24 bit DVD-A and it plays back at 16 bit in PowerDVD

I was just wondering if 24 bit audio is always downsampled -- my soundcard is set to 24 bit 96000k in windows settings -- audio enhancements are disabled...

is there any way to use powerdvd without it Re-sampling audio for me and just leave it to my sound card and system?

my HD sound card isnt supported by you guys -- its a creative x-fi surround 5.1 pro -- but it shouldnt matter -- it STILL outputs sound out of it fine -- and it still samples through ANY other player that doesnt resample on its own -- like windows media player/VLC/foobar/etc -- its only because PDVD is capable of resampling audio and video on its own, taking place of the sound card/video card, that this is happening...

right now I have a Pink Floyd Dark side of the moon DVD-A disc in, and its playing it at 16/44.1 -- even though my sound card is set to 24/96

I saw in an old post someone said something about copy protection -- but this has NOTHING to do with the issue of 24 vs 16 bit audio or sample rate -- it is PURELY because PowerDVD insists upon resampling everything.

there should be an option to totally shut off powerDVD's resampler, and just stream to whichever is the default windows sound device, with no enhancements. After all, if there are NO enhancements being used, what use is resampling the audio in powerDVD?

Dont say its because you need a secure audio path or whatever -- seriously -- if that were true, then how come I can play music in foobar2000 at 24/96k...

or video games...

or in VLC, or any other movie player without audio resampling capability?

seriously, in the next version, just add in a checkbox that allows the audio resampler in your player to turn off, so the sound goes directly to the windows WAV mapper, or whatever the default audio device is --

then you'd have basic support for all audio devices, just the same way you can turn trutheater enhancement off

so this IS a copy protection feature.

thats ridiculously evil of these theives to try and say I stole 24 bit audio that I have purchased.

I will be finding a way to break this if it is at all possible.

I will destroy their copy protection schemes. hell if Im the first to do it, I will release it to the public under a false IP address and then layer TOR on top and give it to the masses!

besides, the DVD i was playing wasnt even protected -- I will say it may or may not have been pirated and stripped of protection -- so this means I must find another player!!!

as a LOT of my audio is in 24 bit format, and some of it EVEN CAME OUT BEFORE THIS COPY PROTECTION SCHEME EXISTED!!!!

most isnt in DVD or Blu-RAY but Mpg and computer files.

since they are computer files, and the protected audio path is NOT necessary, the player should account for that.

you guys shouldnt force the use of protected audio path in non-blu ray formats?

why cant I play, say, a 24 bit FLAC file without it? huh?

FLAC isnt even video!!!!

and what if its an open source video that used 24 bit audio?

what if a local band recorded really well and gave away DVDs and didnt WANT copy protection on them?

why not scan the DISC ITSELF for copy protection before disabling 24 bit audio for everyone, all the time?

it is ONLY supposed to be used with theatrical movie releases.

Can you try using WASAPI in PowerDVD and see how that goes?

it doesnt change anything -- I now know why it is. they prevent audio playback in the name of piracy -- but guess what -- IT DOESNT PROTECT COPYRIGHT -- it just STOPS PAYING CUSTOMERS AND PIRATES ALIKE FROM PLAYING AUDIO WITHOUT VERY SPECIFIC HARDWARE.

in fact - PIRATES WITH THE RIGHT HARDWARE -- can just simply run it and it works as if there was no problem.

how is this in any way legitamate.

its integrated into windows as well as blue ray discs -- there isnt much I can do about actual disks -- but EVEN FILES that use DTS-HD or Dolby TrueHD -- they only work if you have very specific (and out of production) sound cards, or send the information through a soundcard with HDMI out.

otherwise they mandate the audio be downsampled and powerlink is complying.

I am working on a way to breach the DMCA (fuck all if I get sued, if I have to build my own way Im sharing).

theres a few things Im trying out, in order to break the protected audio path.

thing is, its NOT just Blu-Ray -- its ANY VIDEO FILE encoded with surround sound data thats 24 bit, and over 48khz.

this is a scumbag move to sell more hardware and force people to do what they want, how they want them to.

how does forcing a specific connection prevent piracy????

how the fuck at al???

all it means is that ONLY PIRATES who CAN AFFORD THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT can play the same files..

it doesnt matter if your a paying customer, a street thug, or an internet pirate -- all that matters is you have "this specific sound card" that supports X playback mode.

it is NOT COPYRIGHT PROTECTION AT ALL!!! YOU CAN EASILY STEAL DTS HD MOVIES

I DID IT THIS MORNING!!!!!

ALL IT STOPS IS PEOPLE PLAYING BACK ON THEIR PC, WITHOUT BUYING A SPECIFIC RECEIVER AND SOUND CARD

THE MOVIES ARE HTE SAME, PIRATED OR ON DISC -- THEY JUST DONT WORK RIGHT WITHOUT SPECIFIC HARDWARE

WHAT YOUR HARDWARE IS CAPABLE OF DOESNT MATTER!!!

they are scum, and need to be dealt with and treated like scum/

I will find a way to break their laws, and I will share it.

I feel your pain. It is a joke how crippled and regulated and DRM ridden music and video have become.
All these Different formats and standards, all we need is a 32float wav to be used by everyone and be done with it.
It doesn't stop piracy, it just makes everything so frustrating for the legitimate user.
Its not cyberlink fault though. It's the greedy film companies! Haswell 4770k watercooled @4.6 ghz. 16GB RAM,

You can make DVD-Audio discs (music) with Sony's Architect software but its a pain to use unlike most video editers I've used in the past. I belive J.Rivers media centre 22 offers hi Res playback. You can download a fully working trial version and its very reasonable priced i know it can playback 24 bit files but not sure of DVD-As check it out anyway.
