problem with multicam using power director 13

I'm having problem with multicam designer Since upgrading to 13. I use four different camera angles while recording on one camera it runs all the way to the end of all the footage loaded into the app. Now I go back to where I was and pick up the editing, and it does it again until it crashes and the program shuts down. I really do like the multicam designer...when it works, it's awesome. But these crashes are becoming frustrating.

I have sent a ticket To PowerDirector, On March 3rd but they did not solve my problem yet. I'm using windows 7, 64bits,16gb of memory, six core AMD processor 3.30GHZ and NVIDIA.

Just wondering if someone solve that problem yet?

Thank You

I had crashes when working the machine hard, but the power supply didn't like it. It was a top of the line Antec, but was bad.
Have you verified it is working properly?
One stick of the memory could also cause it. .

Bonjour JR,

I'm a newcomer to PowerDirector, but I too have been having trouble with MultiCam Editor not working. We *believe* the problem has been traced to a slightly underpowered computer but mostly to an older NVIDIA card. You don't mention which card your NVIDIA is.

I have two almost identical computers... one at home and one at work. There are two differences: the one at home has an i7 running at 2.93GHz and an older NVIDIA Quadro FX 1800 and the one at work has i7 @ 3.40GHz and a newer NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti.

When you look at the benchmark test results of those video cards you see there is a HUGE difference in their performance. That, coupled with a bit faster i7, makes my work computer behave really very well. MultiCam Editor is virtually unusable on my home computer.

Tomorrow night I will be upgrading my home computer graphics card to a GTX 960 (MUCH better performance) and also will change my working drives from 5400 rpm 1TB to 7200 2TB drives. My drive C: is an SSD.

I expect this will make a world of difference.

Welcome to the world of video editing, especially with multi-camera work, which will show just how underpowered your computer might be.

So anyway, let us know what your graphic card is and hopefully someone here will be able to offer more help.

Good luck!

Hi JR

As Eldor mentioned, doing multi-cam editing is like a stress test on your system, and it's not uncommon for problems to show up here even though your computer is otherwise running well.

Please follow the steps here to create a diagnostic file, then post the results in your reply. There's usually something in the results that forum members can use to understand the underlying issue.

You may want to try editing multiple copies of "Boats.wmv," which comes bundled with PD13. Just check the box labeled "Automatically load sample clips" from the Settings (gear)|Project tab then load multiple copies of the clip into the MultiCam Editor and see if the same kind of crash happens.

If you don't have any crashes with Boats.wmv, it would help to share a sample of your source media. If you have a small clip (<30MB) you can attach it here, otherwise you can provide a link to a cloud service like DropBox or OneDrive.

Each of these will give us more details on what might be happening with your system.

Hi Eldor,

I'm new to all this video editing, thank you for your information.

I have GeForce GTX670, Integrated RAMDAC 4038MB

I'm not sure what all this means but when I purchase my desktop I told them what I was using it for and they said that's what I needed. (that was 18 months ago) I understand that technology changes very quickly. If I know for sure that I need a better graphic card I will change it but I would like to know if that's the problem first.

I sent my "dxdiag" file to power director when I put in a ticket with my problem, but I'm disappointed that they haven't got back to me yet. (They did but only to say that they are working on it).

What I don't understand is that I was not having any problem with Powerdirector 12. I'm using same computer, my files are on my external hard drive same as before.

So in your opinion do you think its a graphic card problem?
thank you

No, J.R., I don't think your video card is the problem. I just plugged it into the benchmark site and your card is WAY FASTER than either of the two that I currently have, and only a tiny bit slower than the new card I'm installing tomorrow.

So, it must be something else.

I hope one of the kind gurus here will find something in your diag files that'll give a clue.

Hard drive speed, maybe?

I'll be watching this thread closely to see what folks come up with and how you resolve this.

All I can say now is to wish you the best of luck!

I just tried multiple copies of "Boats.wmv," which comes bundled with PD13. it did not crash, so I did the same with one of my video (imported the same video multiple time) my video did not crash also.

I did it again with another one of my video same thing everything worked without a glitch.

so I imported both my videos into multicam, synch with audio within less than 1 min it crashed.

JR, your computer diagnostics look fine and your system should be powerful enough to do multi-cam editing.

You don't have the latest version of PD13, please see this link to update, then test again.

Also, can you explain what was different when your computer crashed after importing the clips vs. when it didn't crash?

I'm have the problem that after update to build 2604, the multicam editor won't play the videos. It runs as if in slow motion.

I've tried it with the same footage that worked fine before the update, so I suspect that's the problem, since nothing else was changed.

Anybody else have this problem?

I'd like to roll back to the previous build. Is it sufficient to run the updater for that build, or will I have to reinstall the program from scratch?

You can click on the 2408 link on Cyberlink's website and reinstall that version, but before you do, it sounds like your Preview settings may have gotten changed to Full HD.

The ME uses the same settings as the main timeline, so try changing it down a notch to HD or even High (the middle quality) and go back to the ME. That's the usual cause of slow playback.

Note also that you didn't see a crash with 2604, so I wouldn't be so quick to roll back. See if the preview quality makes a difference first.

Thanks optodata! That's probably it. I did set the preview to high def to show my wife something. I didn't realize the multicam uses the same settings. I can't test it right now, because it's producing a long HD video, but I will as soon as it's done.

No need to roll back. Thanks again.

I just downloaded the patch, testing it now.

the difference is when I used the same video clip multiple time it worked and when I uses 2 different clips it crashed.

OK. Now we know that the issue isn't something that was fixed in the latest release, and we know that there's either something going on when using different clips rather than multiple copies of the same clip. That's progress!

Can you attach or provide a link to 2 or 3 of the clips that you had the crash with? It's important to share the clips that actually caused the problems. You could also Export the Project from the File menu to a cloud folder and post a link. That way we can look at and try out everything just as you've got things set up.

My money is on an incompatible format issue with one or more of the source clips. Once we can have access to the clips it'll be easy to test and correct and issue like that.

I just tried with PowerDirector 12 and it worked fine, so I'm thinking it has to do with the program.

I'm not sure how to send the video clip to you? I just downloaded dropbox, but when I put the video clip in it to share the link it says 8hrs. my video clip are all between 4 to 6 min each. I must be doing something wrong.

An HD file that's 4 minutes long is still many MB in size. If you have a slow upload speed, it will take hours to transfer. Be patient, and only send up 2 or 3 clips. Post the link whenever the upload is finished and give other forum members a chance to test them out.

Also, PD12 and PD13 are very different "under the hood," and sometimes issues come up like this. I'm sure we'll get it figured out !
