I was provided a replay back from support that there is no way to modify the video bitrate in the create disc tab. And I assume since no one has responded they have found any other means to modify it.

It is a shame since PD is a good product but this one issue makes it drop below others in my eyes when it balloons video files by 40% in size AND is no where close to accurate on size estimation (which has been pointed out on numerous occasions on this board). Roxio and VideoStudio does not blow up the video bitrate but you can actually change video quality when burning to disc or folder with these products. It is a shame PD has had some of the same issues for a while and does not get addressed.

Is the result the same if you first PRODUCE the video at one of the many preset rates, or customize your own, THEN burn?

I have tried different settings in produce but that appears to only apply to when I burn the file to mp4 or whatever I choose. It does not appear to affect video whenI burn to disc or folder under create disc. And from threads I read it seems to go along with that.

The video bitrate is always about 16700kbps, up from 12654kbps, on the native video file when burned in Create disc when selecting AVCHD or BR.

Yes, but I want to use PD for editing videos, then creating menus, chapters, etc. I can burn to folders with PD but it also has issues with blowing up video bitrate.

I documented how to do this in PD10, it still works fine in PD12, follow the pdf "Burning a BD with a User Defined Bitrate.pdf" here, http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/20867.page#116989 It is a two step processes but it can preserve your ~12Mbps bitrate so your size on BD does not balloon on you.

I followed the pdf and under Produce, created a custom H.264 custom profile. The only thing I changed was Average bit rate from 15500kps to 13500kbps. I created file in Produce and it created an mts file with 14103kbps bitrate. I then added the file to Create Disc, created 4 chapters. I then selected AVCHD disc and burned to folder.

Once completed the file has a bitrate of 16443kbps, the same as before.

I had placed a case with support and they told me there is no way to change the bitrate under Create Disc.

I will play around with it some more, but those are my results so far.

Post a 10 sec clip from your camera and I will try. I use it at least once a week and it works fine with my Canon footage.

Appears to work fine for me. I followed the steps I outlined in the pdf. I put 10 of your samples in the timeline so I had something to work with that was reasonable. Produced with a custom profile set to a avg bitrate of 12500, essentially your goal earlier in the thread and very similar to the bitrate of the sample provided.
Your original file 15.6MB in size, for the 10 of them I put in timeline so 156MB. As you can see from the MediaInfo report the size of 00000.m2ts file in the BD folder structure is 154MB and has a video bitrate of 12.1Mbps.

I think I satisfied everything you asked for in a BD project.

Pic attached with all pertinent info to document a BD folder structure with your footage and nothing ballooned in size.

You would then burn the folder to BD disc with windows or any viable burn utility.

I am not sure what I did before, but now it works.

Do you have any idea how I can get my custom bitrate on Create Disc without creating an output file with Produce which basically has the same settings as the original file? I tried going through the same steps but used the original file but it always increases the bitrate.

I am trying multiple video files now to see if it will handle keeping the lower bitrate.

I really wish PD would allow changing the bitrate in create Disc as other products allow you to do.

Everything seems to work with the exception of one video file I have that is 2.2GB. I use Produce to create the bitrate to 12.5Mbps but no matter what I do the create disc creates a video file with 16Mbps. Even when I have other files in the create disc project that get created with 12.5Mbps, this one file ends up with 16Mbps. Which is 600MB larger than it started.

I have recreated the file multiple times with my custom profile and then tried using create disc with only that file and with others. It is the only one that goes back to the higher bitrate.

Any thoughts? Do you think it is because of the size of the file? I plan on trying another file that is large.

No, I have never seen file size being a variable in what I've done. My experience is from short test files to nearly 50GB for DL BD and never had a issue, PD9-PD12.

If you would, post a pic of your "Produce" screen settings when creating the H.264 12500kpbs file.

See attached. I went through it one more time with this file just to make sure..... When trying to upload the video file to the link it tells me I do not have perms.

Media info shows 4:3 on top of page 2 of your pdf, nope wont work with that. Get a valid 16:9 and I think you should be okay.

That file will mess up the SVRT cheat I documented in my process as that file will need to be encoded by PD for a typical BD burn so PD will encode everything at the PD BD standard bitrate.

OK. I guess I need to change my GOPRO to 16x9. I will give that a try in creating a 16x9 file.

You don't need to change your camera to record in 16:9 if you don't want to:

For this clip:
1) Set PD to 16:9 aspect ratio
2) Import clip, read the PD warning about aspect ratio, DON'T change PD project to match clip, select NO
3) Accept some method of utilizing 4:3 in a 16:9 frame.
.....a) do nothing and have black bars left and right with your 4:3 video
.....b) put a different backdrop 16:9 pic behind the footage and retain video at 4:3
.....c) use CL CLVP technology to stretch clip to 16:9
.....d) many more options, whatever appeals to you
4) Produce project with custom profile with H.264, 12500kbps
5) Create a new project with the produced file from step 4
6) Add chapters as desired
7) Burn project to a BD folder
8) Verify 12500kbps video in BD folder
9) Burn to disc

Everything shown in the attached pic with BD folder size of the video essentially the same as your supplied (PM link) GOPRO-12500BR.m2ts (2.08GB) and the 00000.m2ts (2.11GB) .

I did as you said and wala 12500kbps bitrate! I even created a slideshow and went through the same and it came out as expected. I really thank you for helping me out. PD is a good product but they really need to fix 2 major flaws:

1. The estimation size of create disc projects
2. Allow custom bitrate on create disc

Next on to see if I can actually create an entire project with everything correct.
