Please feel free to post in this thread:

- if all the change log issues appear to be resolved by the beta patch update.
- if any new program related issues arise as a result of installing the beta patch update.

Please do not use this thread to:

- post any questions about other issues not outlined in the change log.
- post suggested enhancements for future versions of PowerDirector.

We want to ensure this thread stays on the topic at hand, so your assistance would be very much appreciated.

Please note: The PowerDirector development team will not respond to this thread. The thread is intended to be a central gathering place for feedback on the current beta patch update to ensure that future updates of PowerDirector 12 are of the highest quality.

Please note: The beta patch updates are still undergoing the testing process and may include significant issues. It is the beta tester’s responsibility to protect their system and data during beta testing. It is strongly recommended that you back up your computer and its data prior installing a beta patch update.

Regards,
PowerDirector Team

***********************************************************

Members who test the beta batch and I'm sure many of us will have a go, here are some items to include and consider.

1. Test the issue you find, see if it repeatedly does the fault.
2. Write up your actions/report so others can follow your actions (step by step) and replicate the fault you've found.
3. Be thorough. Test the beta fully BEFORE writing a report here, "don't jump too soon" without checking your actions.
4. INCLUDE a diagnostic of your PC.
5. Don't overload this feedback location with multiple confirmations - one or two is ok, if you disagree, that's good to.
6. Feedback on the patch - no distracting or tangential commentary is wanted, as it is unnecessary on this thread.

Have a go and see what you find - it can be fun making PowerDirector better.

Fantastic! Here are the items I noticed or experienced with this patch:

  • I could not download the patch because the downloader thought the latest patch had already been downloaded. I ran my batch file to clear out the old .ini files (and I manually confirmed that there were no .ini files in the C:\ProgramData\CyberLink\Downloader folder), but I still could not download the 2626 patch. Finally, I renamed the 2619 patch file (I put a "z" before the ".exe") and was able to download the 2626 patch

  • I performed the test we used to intentionally break a clip and I could not get the clip to break in this version! The real test is to see if any clips still randomly break during editing sessions, but this looks like a good start

  • I then opened up an older project where the clips had been broken, and they remain broken. This implies that the problem is not related to how PD processes/parses/interprets the project, but rather that the damage is caused by errors stored in the project itself. In other words, once the breaks happened, they were saved in the project and opening up damaged projects with an improved version of PD12 doesn't recover/repair the broken clips.

  • On my Win8.1 system, something is not working correctly with the loading and/or displaying of the editor window. I have all SSDs and an i7 4770K, and previous versions of PD12 loaded and were ready to edit in about 2 seconds. It would always take a couple of seconds longer if I (re)loaded a new project for the library and clips to be processed, but it was still quick.

With this version, it's taking 23 seconds to load a project with just Nature.wmv in the timeline What on earth is going on? The splash screen of the movie camera used to disappear after about a second, now it takes 8 seconds for the main program window to display, and I can watch every single screen element get refreshed for another 15 seconds before the project title finally appears at the top of the window. It even takes 8 seconds to reload the open project and choosing merge libraries. Right now, that's going to be enough for me to go back to 2619.

  • On a related note, it still takes at least 10 seconds for a Pixelan control panel to appear on my system, but with the drastic slowdown of the editor's screen functions, I guess that's not surprising. They may even be related, so it would be helpful to hear if people on Win7 or Win 8 or 8.1 who haven't had slow display problems with Pixelan are also seeing a big slowdown in project load times.

  • EDIT #1. It also takes 7-9 seconds for the Modify screen to appear if I click on a title, PiP, clip, and 5-6 seconds with a small JPG.

EDIT #2. I reinstalled the 2619 patch and can confirm that the load times are back to normal after rebooting. For example, the splash screen comes and goes in 1 sec; loading a project with just Nature.wmv is ready in 5 sec; clicking on Modify for nature.wmv in the timeline opens in less than 2 sec; reopening the same project (and merging libraries) takes 5 sec. When clicking Modify on a JPG in the timeline, the window opens in 1 sec, and it takes just 1-3 seconds on a title, clip or PiP.

Cyberlink should look at whatever changes they made in 2626 and see why they would lead to such a drastic slowdown in display times. That will probably be related to the reason that the other menus have been so slow to appear on some Win8.1 systems

EDIT #3. I got adventurous and reinstalled the 2626 patch. This time, I rebooted before running PD and the load times for the project and bringing up the Modify window are no longer very slow. They are comparable to the times I measured using 2619. I realized that rebooting might help when I first went back to the 2619 patch and the load times were still very long and rebooting helped. Now I can use the 2626 patch and see if the clip break/unlink issue is fully addressed.

Have been working with CL support for two weeks. Even lifted to higher level and still nothing. Last advice was download V2616. Even after emptying download folder still comes up I do not have correct version. Tried v. 2626 and same thing. Am at v.2509 at moment and will not upload to YouTube. Rendering is slower etc., not good.
This should just work as most S/W usually does.
Support is either very slow or very overloaded dealing with problems with PD 12?
Have been happily using 4Gb RAM for last two years and just upgraded to 8Gb. Unfortunately am back to 4Gb as one of the new sticks died and as dual pair have to send both back.
Trust there is some light at the end of all this.

I just revised my original post (Edit #3) to say that I am now able to achieve normal load and window-display speeds with the 2626 beta patch after rebooting. Whatever was really slowing down PD immediately after the patch was installed on my Win8.1 system seems to be resolved once the computer is restarted.

Common sense, but I didn't think of it at the time...

I now have experienced a broken clip with 2626 This one was a little different, as I was adding keyframes to the last clip in the timeline and that caused PD to crash. After sending in the error report, I reopened the project and found that the clip I was working on was broken.

In case it helps Cyberlink understand what caused the crash or why the clip broke (which might have caused the crash), I've packed the project into this SkyDrive folder. It's almost 1GB to download, and the broken clip is 00014.mts in Track 1 at about 4:38 on the timeline.

EDIT: I went back and looked at the auto-saved versions of this project and found that every one of them that has the last clip shows it as broken. This makes me think that trying to add keyframes to this broken clip is what caused PD to crash rather than the crash breaking the clip. I've just added the past 2 autosaved projects to the SkyDrive folder for completeness

If cannot even download this Beta then should be an easy answer? Would not think this would be off topic.

Hi , I've just downloaded this latest beta patch v2626 and tried to do some keyframing on a still image for inclusion in a short title seq. Very disappointed in that there are still no fixes for basic keyframe moves. If you grab the image to move it to the position you want, it jumps back to a different position that PD suggests !!
You still can't easily maintain aspect ratio, instead there are random (!) h & S scale numbers.
Still "no jump to" OR "Copy" next key frame or even duplicate keyframes.
How about a rotate image in this set of tools?

Haven't yet tried any thing else!

Sorry but I'm going to have to go back to Premiere Elements for this simple edit!

The sun is shining I should be outside but I have to finish this edit, such is life

    but we keep smiling

    cheers
