I opened a project I have created in PDR7 build 1714 using the PDR build 1911 and everything seems ok exceprt the content I have added at the music track using build 1714 is invisible but when playing, the music can be heared. Reported to CyberLink support team and they suggested me to install & try buid 1915. Same error for build 1915 as well. The
contents added in the music track is not visible and trying to add more
music to the track pops up as "OPERATION FAILD".
Anybody face the same problem? it seems major feature in PD is broken.

Appreciate for any help...thanks

I had a similar problem with subtitles. I think something must have been amiss with the version 1714 pds files under certain circumstances. My issue noted below from a previous post.

I also have major issues if you open a PD7 v1714 pds file that had subtitles in it with PD7 v1829. My subtitles end up in the PIP track somehow and can't be deleted. All title blocks are missing in the title track but do play in movie mode. If you try to add a new title block you get "operation failed". I had to reload PD7 v1714 on another computer, pack my project, remove the subtitles, and then repack and bring it back to the v1829 computer.

I think to some degree you might have a corrupt pds file. You may be able to recover in a simialr fashion as I did.

Having a similar problem when using PD7 patch 1915. I created a project using PDR7 build 1714, everything was working fine until I downloaded the new 1915 patch. My problem is that I am unable to see the text or the music in the title or music track. When playing the video, the titles show up in the movie but I still don't have any music. I did the same thing JL did by adding text and music, and received the same "operation failed " message. Has anyone been able to solve this problem? Very frustrating

I got the same problem and emailed cyberlink support and who basically said reinstall, remove registry keys etc; (provided detailed instructions.) and disable "User Access Control in Vista, however it didn't work.

I can't insert any more title tracks into my project. Nor can I insert them into new projects. Do cyberlink monitor and what are they going to do.

Also forgot to mention that I only purchased the product about 4 weeks ago and updated to 1715 immediately and developed projects in that version. So when tried to open again in reinstalled 1714, message said that I couldn't open it because it was developed in a later version. This had been after hours of work.

So basically, I now have a 4 week old duff piece of software.

John,

It's Sunday morning September 21st with me here and the 20th was a Saturday. I monitor the forum here - read most posts and refer individuals to CyberLink and add a few posts as well to guide others. I do other things also with MY time.

Update your build of PD7 - not a problem. Opening a pds file which was created in PD7 whatever version will NOT present any problems. Reverse compatibility is also a function of PD7 but is limited to PD5+-->

There is only ONE Title's track (time-line). If you mean a Title then you need to explain your actions.

The advice given to you to re-install to correct your configuration is correct.

I suggest you contact Customer Support and inform them of your issue to date and seek further input from them.

The aim here is to get you editing. There may be other factors involved which are causing you problems and I feel you need to let them have more information by describing what you have done in a logical manner. I would also suggest you ask for a full build in case a corruption of your install program has taken place.

Please look up some guides here:

Dafydd,

Thanks for your response.

The point about being unable to open the PDS file, was not about Reverse compatibility but forward compatibility.

I really did get a message after I had reinstalled Power Director, and before I updated to 1915, saying that the project could not be opened because it had been created in a newer version.

When I buy software, I generally expect it to work and not to have to mess around for hours trying to make it work. The fact that I do means that it isn't fit for vista.

My view is that either cyberlink fix it, or have the decency to refund me so that I can buy a programme that works.

However I do appreciate your helpful comments.

John

John,

When dealing with trying to work a project between different builds, releases, and versions of a given software, there is frequently a compatibility problem. The conventional advice (and wisdom) has been once a project is started in one build or version it is best completed in that one.

What I would do depends on what format you are trying to edit. Best and most reliable would be to do the re-install as suggested being sure you have a clean registry after uninstalling and before re-installing.

Then go back to your original media and begin the edit anew. Could be a bit of a PITA but I find when I've had to do that I pretty much remember enough of what I did and it's gone far faster than I dreaded (and this was with other software).

Approach #2 is if you edited in standard def. Clean off or delete material in the title track and the music track and render to a full screen AVI. Then in build 1915 import that AVI as new media, have PD7 detect scenes and when that is done drag 'n drop the scenes to the timeline in order. Add new titles on the title track and redo the music on the music track.

If you use the magic music (SmartSound) seriously consider acquiring their standalone music program. Right now the Express Tracks Edition is free with any music purchase from their albums and for very limited time they still offer 6 new albums for $49.95. I just snapped up Scoring Suites at that price even though I already have the Scoring Edition software.

This package will let you score to specific lengths and export to a file you can drag 'n drop to the music track of almost any video editing package. And all of their newer disks are multilayer giving you tremendous flexibility in muting or reducing specific instrument layers.

Hi Bif

Thanks for your great advice. I tried your suggested solution 2 without much joy, however your first suggestion worked. As you said a PITA, however after trying all the other technical solutions for hours, re editing worked, and I will certainly not upgrade builds until I have finished a project. Pity cyberlink don't provide your wisdom.

Thanks again

John

John,

New versions, new builds cause that kind of problem in other software packages also, not just PD.

The worst case I ever had to go back and re edit on was my kid brother's memorial service. I had spent close to a week adding still photos of him with pan and zoom effects during the two musical pieces that were played. And then suddenly project crashed and would not open no matter what I tried.

Turned out the original HDV capture had become corrupted and when I did a fresh capture none of the "control" file or aux file links worked.

Total "from scratch" re-edit took a day and a half to get to the same point and the rest was mostly finish up and fine tuning.
