Hello,

I just installed updates. As I a result, when I try to move ONE clip on the timeline, I cannot. Other clips are moved as well.
This makes editing impossible.

Thanks for your help.

More details of what you are doing.
You select only 1 clip moves as if they are all grouped together, it is. AMD-FX 8350 / 8GB DDR3

Are ALL clips selected, as they would be if you pressed <ctrl-A>? Perhaps the keyboard is "stuck." Try another.

I appreciate you answering my post.

I checked the keyboard and it is not stuck. It's really strange, I'll highlight one clip and a clip that's not adjacent to it is highlighted (maybe 2 over). It's got to be something in the update, everything's been working perfectly for months. And, this is my first update.

Thank you for the suggestion!

Playsound, I just saw your question . . .

"More details of what you are doing.

Normally, I lasso a clip and then place them where I want. What is happening now is that when I lasso one or two clips, a clip that is 2 or 3 over on the timeline get highlighted. It doesn't make sense.

Thank you!

Strange indeed. Consider an UNinstall then reinstall with the update just prior to the one that brought on the problem.
See the head of this forum for "sticky" posts that link to the latest updates.

Also, before trying this, look under EDIT|PREFS|GENERAL tab and "manually delete" temporary files.

Grasping for straws here. Yet corruption in the cache has been known to do odd things - to various programs.
Won't hurt, perhaps other than causing clips to initially load a bit more slowly.

Thanks for trying to help! I tried deleting the temporary files. Didn't work. I opened an old project and I didn't see the problem. That gave me the idea to cut and paste the timeline into a new project. And darn it, the problem still happened. I think I should try your next suggestion, uninstall and reinstall and don't get the latest update.

Appreciate it!!

Are you sure the clips are not grouped?

Right click on the clips that are selected, see if there is a Ungroup command.

Carl312,

Thank you for your suggestion. What's odd is the clips aren't in order (one right after another). I highlight one clip, and 7 clips over gets highlighted. I'm almost sure its a bug in the update. Do you know how I might report that?

Appreciate your thoughts!

Another question if you please, I just uninstalled and reinstalled PD 12. The same thing is happening. I downloaded from the website. Do you think that download would have the last update??

If so, I have a disk that I could try re-installing.

If new projects do not have the same problem then there is nothing wrong with Powerdirector.

Strange things can happen in corrupted projects.

Try a New project using only the sample files.
File > New Project (Ctrl+N).

If you do not have the sample file showing now:
Preferences (gear at top) > Projects > Check Automatically load sample clips when Powerdirector opens. click OK.

Close then reopen Powerdirector.

Put several of the nature.mpg clips on the timeline then play with them to see if you get the same problem.

Hello,

I attached a screen grab of the issue, perhaps that might help matters. I highlighted the one clip where the scrub bar is located. Notice that there are other clips to the right of that clip that are highlighted in a very random fashion.

Thank you.

Hi just a quick question- the download is a paid registered version sent to you by Cyberlink ? The trial version cannot be registered and made into a fully operational version just so you know.

I did experienced something similar like this weird linking back in PD 11. Did you add then delete a transition before you noticed this happening? Is there a file in between one of the clips that you moved, changed the timing or deleted then you notice this occurring?

Try right clicking on them, select "un link video & audio" and then "re link video & audio" to the correct video & sound files. Now save your project as a new name. Close the old one and open the new one and see.

See this old video issue #2 to see if it is similar to what you are experiencing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVyJyIqnOPU

Also see here for more info: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/28717.page

In the picture I saw an error that was corrected in the latest update v. 2420, if you downloaded the trial version do not know if is already updated with this fix.
We also can not guarantee that your case is the same as was fixed.
Have a look at this thread can help understand and have something to do with your problem.

http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/29997.page#169609

If this is the case, the error still exists in the project open in PD12 v2420.
Maybe, rename the video file to force PD, make new analyzes of the file correct the error of the project.

Thank you Carl 312, RobAC, and Playsound for your suggestions!

Carl, I have noticed that a new project does not have this issue. However, I'm wondering if it might develop given a little time . . . If I need to re-create this project, it will take 10 or 12 hours; its over an hour long. (I tried cutting and pasting into a new project -- and the issue persists.)

Playsound, no, this isn't a trial version of PD12. I've been using it for months without any issues. However, I purchased a new computer about a month ago and did not have a problem until after I installed the update.
Will look at your link you provided and see if I can repair with a screenshot. May have more questions on that! : :

Rob, AC

Yes, I purchased this PD12, I also have a disc that I might try loading, instead of downloading from the sight.

I didn't delete a transition . . . if I recall correctly, I updated and then did color adjustments on one clip. I didn't change the timing. However, I might have moved a clip (that's a tough one to remember, the project is over an hour long!)

I will try your suggestions and watch your youtube link and get back to you Will also take a look at your link to a forum post!

I want to thank everyone for their support. I've started a new business where I produce remembrance videos for customers called Personal Story Videos. (I shoot and edit - the whole enchilada). I worked at TV stations for years in marketing and edited on Final Cut and Avid. I'm not a wiz at editing (better writer), but I've got lot of experience doing it. I'm so grateful for your help and will look in to all of these suggestions!

It seems we have proven that there is nothing wrong with your Powerdirector installation.

There is one suggestion I can give that may eliminate having to recreate your long project.

If you can find a auto saved project that is without the problems, you will save some time in recreating the missing parts.

Auto Save location for Powerdirector 12
It is a Hidden location. Change your Folder Options to show Hidden folders and files
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\CyberLink\PowerDirector\12.0\AutoSave

You should always use Save Project AS and give the project a incrementing number. That way you can go back to an earlier time.

If you just Save, you are overwriting your previous Project file, If anything goes wrong, you have no fall back.
