Carl, I have noticed that a new project does not have this issue. However, I'm wondering if it might develop given a little time . . . If I need to re-create this project, it will take 10 or 12 hours; its over an hour long. (I tried cutting and pasting into a new project -- and the issue persists.)

RR

It seems we have proven that there is nothing wrong with your Powerdirector installation.

There is one suggestion I can give that may eliminate having to recreate your long project.

If you can find a auto saved project that is without the problems, you will save some time in recreating the missing parts.

Auto Save location for Powerdirector 12
It is a Hidden location. Change your Folder Options to show Hidden folders and files
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\CyberLink\PowerDirector\12.0\AutoSave

You should always use Save Project AS and give the project a incrementing number. That way you can go back to an earlier time.

If you just Save, you are overwriting your previous Project file, If anything goes wrong, you have no fall back.

Carl.

Thank you!! I have been saving projects as you suggested. I went back to January 13, two weeks before this issue happened, and the same thing is happening with that. I'm wondering, do you think that means its not a corrupted file?

Thanks for sticking in here with this issue.

It may or may not be a corrupted Project file. It could still be something else that we have no clue about.

Do you know how to do a screen capture showing the action you take?

Carl,

Yes, I know how to screen capture! Here is a screen capture of what the highlighted clips look like. Is this helpful or do I need more?

Thank you for that screen shot.

I saw that same screen shot earlier.

I was hoping for a video screen capture that shows the action.

Also if you were to expand the timeline to get a closer view of the highlighted clips.

What do you see if you Right Click on one of the highlighted clips?

Carl, I'm sorry, I didn't quite understand what you meant. Unfortunately, I haven't done a video screen capture before -- great idea. I will research how to do that (I bet Youtube has a good instructional video.)

Attached is another screen grab -- not sure if it will be helpful . . .

Playsound has included some suggestions I'd like to run by you . . . will send those to you soon.

(High today in Oklahoma is 17 degrees. Hope the great state of Texas is warmer!)

My Best!

I note from your screen capture that you have shadow files enabled. If your system specs are as in your signature, you don't need them so switch them off in edit>preference>enable HD video editing.

Switching off shadow files should not affect an existing project but I have never really trusted the implementation of shadow files so ...........................??

I think I would open up your problem project (after switching off shadows and closing and re-opening PD) do a couple of edits and then save as and see if the problem still persists.

Cheers

Adrian. Thanks for the tip about "shadow files"! Good to know. I implemented your suggestions and it didn't fix the issue. Still good know more details about PD12.

Carl -- Below is what Playsound suggested. Additionally, here is a link to his forum postings with further info. about a problem that seems similar to mine. http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/29997.page#169609 Here he offers two downloads. First question - I am always cautious about downloads and did ask him about it-- but because of the language barrier, I don't think he understood. Do you think I should download these?

" [i]I do not have the video, because the problem has already been corrected thought no longer need, it only showed the error.
I remember that the project that had the error, still opened with same error in PD12 v2420,.
The solution that I am not mistaken is to create a new folder and transfer the video files to it, so when PD open the project that has the error, can not find the files and it will open a window asking if you want to find or ignore.
Choose Browse and directs it to the new folder with the same project files.
Thus PD12 will again analyze each file and corrects the error in the project.
The error that I have identified in your image is the one that shows the separate video audio."

Second question -- How do I transfer video from one project to another in Power Director? Or am I to transfer video from folders on my PC?

Thank you. Glad it's warmer where you are!

Answer:
Produce the video you want to transfer or use in other projects.

PD12 allows you to produce a range on the timeline, so it is easy in PD12.

You do have to save the video to your PC, Default is to the Export Folder in Preferences.

Carl,

I'm afraid I wasn't very clear in my writing. It's hard! I was wondering what Playsound might have meant to move (transfer video clips imported from camera.) His possible solution is below. I underlined the part I'm unsure of:

" I do not have the video, because the problem has already been corrected thought no longer need, it only showed the error.
I remember that the project that had the error, still opened with same error in PD12 v2420,.
The solution that I am not mistaken is to create a new folder and transfer the video files to it, so when PD open the project that has the error, can not find the files and it will open a window asking if you want to find or ignore.

Thus PD12 will again analyze each file and corrects the error in the project.
The error that I have identified in your image is the one that shows the separate video audio."

Still plan to create a video screen capture later today!

Oklahoma, freezing-cold thanks!
