W8 here, so it's not the O/S at fault. Wish I had more insight for you...but all will be clear eventually. ^_^

That is the 3D sample file that comes with Powerdirector.

The downloaded file opens just fine in my Powerdirector eleven and I do have Sample files loading with no problem.

My suggestion is for you to Uninstall powerdirector 11, Reboot computer, then Install Powerdirector from the original instalation files.

If you have trouble installing you might try the Powerdirector 11 CL Cleaner tool:

I would think you would only have to uninstall Powerdirector, I may be wrong.

The Suite is a kind of one shot package, so I do not know the best way to go.
It would not hurt to reinstall the whole suite.

I say try it and see.

I hope you activated Powerdirector before you installed the patches.

The correct order is:
1. install Powerdirector.
2. run PD and enter the CD Key
3. Activate the parts that need activation.
4. Install the latest Patch.

I guess you need to contact Cyberlink support. You have an unusual problem.

How did you resolve this problem? I have uninstalled then re-installed several times to get PD 11 to work correctly. Then a new problem pops up. I uninstall and re-install again, problem solved.

But this seems to be a constant problem. Nature.wmv the one that is shipped with pd11 wont load. I think it did at first, then I had sound problems so uninstalled - re-installed. As I said previously uninstalling-re-installing is a pain in the **&* but it works, but has not this time with PD11 own file.

Unlike the original poster I rarely use .wmv files and if I have to I convert them first to mp4 etc then import. It is not the end of the world if I cannot get it to work but it would be nice to sort it.

So did you resolve this? :

WMV videos files depend on having Windows Media Player installed.

Windows 8 and above removed the ability to play DVDs. I do not know if that affected WMV files.

mine still doesn't work. i don't use wmv's often so it doesn't bug me too much, however, if i'm paying for a product i'd like to think everything works. sadly, that's not the case and customer support was just giving me the run around so i stopped communicating.

Loads as it should in PD 11 here.

Are both your audio and video drivers up-to-date? Worth checking. Report back.

Audio and video drivers are upto date. Latest version of media player. It loads in previous versions of PD that I still have on my computer so its not my machine that is the problem. After several uninstalls and re-installs trying to sort out other problems that PD presented it still does not like WMV. I had a similar problem with MP4 files with it but after doing yet another un-install and reinstall to sort out Magic Music, or whatever they call it now, it now works/loads MP4's no problem.

No I dont have any Virus or malware on computer. Iorbit, AVG, Malwarbytes, and a few others on my machine have been run several times to check.

I just accept that Power Director in all its forms is very buggy. My latest non working bit is burning discs, ever so problematic. However I have Cyberlink Blue Ray Disc Suite installed and I burn them through that. So its not lack of knowledge or my computer that is the problem.

Every time a new version of Power Director comes out I get it in the hope that the latest version will have the bugs finally ironed out, each time I am disappointed. Sadly the next time I buy video software it wont be Cyberlink. Such a shame as I actually like using the software (when it works) so no update to 12 for me, I am currently running 11. Adobe you have a future new customer.

Next time you reinstall Powerdirector 11, turn off your malware scanner(s), It may be interfering with the installation.
