Hi,

Like some other members here in the forum, I also get an eventual error appearing when I launch PowerDirector Ultra 11. This started happening after I applied the update ver. 11.0.0.2707 ...btw, I UN-installed and reinstalled this version but the error appears again.

I say it is eventual, because after closing the error warning window and launching PD again, it opens fine and I can work with it without problems.

I am attaching one .jpg with the error warning and the DiazruanovaDxDiag.txt file

I am using W7 Home Premium x64bit
PowerDirector Ultra ver. 11.0.0.2707
SR Number: VDE130121-01
Antivirus: Norton Internet Security 2013 ver. 20.3.0.36 (latest version)
only the Norton AV is running quietly on the back ground, nothing else!

Thanks

Hi,
sometimes your system need a cold reboot for the updates to take effect...have you tried that route?

What Jim said about a cold reboot may be the solution
Thinking back when I did my upgrade (first from the upgrade panel within PD11, then after uninstall, from the 2707 upgrade from the CL site, twice, then back to the previous upgrade from that site), I had my PC running all that time.
It was nit till the next morning that I re started my PC , giving a cold boot, and while reinstalling 2707 had a visitor, when I turned off the PC just after the upgrade completed, then afterwards restarted it (cold boot) to check the now installed upgrade WHICH THEN RAN FINE
So James advice seems sound.
Perhaps if members having this problem confirm that a cold boot does fix it, then maybe the moderator could use his influence to get CL to include this instruction in their upgrade spiel?

COLD REBOOT FIX: Sad to say but the same crash is happening again when I restarted my PC (cold boot) and ran PD11 a few minutes ago
Video files that were created and ran fine under previous upgrade now crash to the CL exe warning, so its back to aquare 1 and the previous upgrade
I had been able to use the 2707 upgrade for a brief session without trouble this morning.
I would like toi send a Diag but I regret I cannot find the DxDiag.exe file on this WinPro version
Following the instructions when entering diagnostic in the "file" box Win8 tells me it cannot find that file
Upper or lower case entry is the same
(if there any spelling errors above please excuse me. I am sight limited and the very samall type face in
yje Quick Reply box is very hard to read for me after a short time)

On my PC sometimes Upload 2707 will run Ok after a
system power on, and sometimes it crashes. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it.
Same with a system Reset via reset button: Sometimes it will boott up and run 2707 OK, other times it crashes.
I cant send a Dxdiag as Diagnostic isn't found on a File Search according to the instructions given to find it on Win8
I will have to go back to previous build as this does work reliably without this problem

Sorry for the late response!

I always turn OFF my machine after using it and this problem happens immediately after turning it on and launching PD11 and as I mentioned on my first it happens sometimes, NOT always and besides, this problem appeared just after updating to .2707 and never before with any other previous version, so it must be a problem with the .2707 version. _______________________________________

John-hpxref2,

Are you entering "dxdiag" (without the quotes) in the 'search programs and files' box?

Yes I am, but if you want a better searcher, download "Everything" (yes, that is the name of the utility) from https://ninite.com/ and if it does NOT appear on an Everything search, it is because you definitely do NOT have it in your system, which is rare, because dxdiag.exe is an important app which comes with any new installation of Windows _______________________________________

----------------------------------
THanks for ye useful input, Hal
NO: I followed the instructions supplied in the Forum for Windows 8 users
as extracted below

Windows 8 users.
1. Cursor Bottom right of Desktop Interface.
2. Select Search
2-1. Select Files
2-2. Type in Search box "diagnostic" and press <ENTER>
2-3. DxDiag.exe should appear, save shortcut to Apps

It says to type in diagnostic in the search box when DxDiag should appear
I shall try your approach now.
Thank you , Hal, for yr advice, much appreciated

John,

Hope it works for you.

I am on a Win7 machine. I didn't realize you were on Win8.

I tried Hals advice to see if the" DxDiag" input in Search Files worked on Win8Pro: It did nit find DxDiag
Tried entering directory parameters in search box under Files, Eg Windows\*.* etc but none of these seem to work
But it does show restricted number of files under search "Program Files"
Finally got into drive C: via START and looked around boot drive C: via the keyboard
Found path "diagnostics" (but no "diagnostic")but no sign of DxDiag or anything like that doing a general keyboard search of all subs in there, including (x86) files:
My Win8Pro is Ver 6.2.9200 and is validated by uSoft
I continue to get updates on it via Usoft site, so its recognized as a valid Win8Pro product:
I shall now contact uSoft customer support and see what they have to say, as DxDiag seems a very necessary utility without which any problems with DP11 may be understandably unresolvable.by group members

Diazruanova advised me to get Ninites "Everything" so I did,
This DOES find dxdiag.exe , but NOT under the Msoft SEARCH FILE "diagnostic" inputs or under DxDiag
Its in Windows/WinSxS/x86microsoftwindows d-x directx
THANK YOU Diazruanova for pointing me to this utility!

However: dxdiag.exe has a big red" X" next to its name.
As an administrator it still appears to be access
restricted to me, but though logged on as an adnminstrator it wont let me change the attributess " though its supposed to be readable. But I find I cant run it anyway.
I may have to uninstall my Win8Pro, reformat the drive and re install it (If uSoft support cant help me)
BUT does anyone know what hardships I may run into
if I try to reinstall WIN8 this way...will it still validate and run? Or wilolo uSoft refuse to re install it?
Or should I just put up with it as is as I find I can occasionally run PD11 2707 from a reboot and it seems OK for that session
Thanks everyone for yr advice

John

Hi John,

I too have had stability issues with the latest build 2707. One thing I did do was to revert back to build 2616 and I had better results. Just go to Support at the top of this page and select Software updates. Select the Power Director category and download the build 2616 patch and save it to your hard drive. All I do is to install this 2616 patch and it will revert your 2707 back to 2616.

See if you notice any improvements. If you don't then its a simple matter to download the 2707 build separately and get yourself to the latest version?

It would be interesting to hear your observations to see if the problem persists with the 2616 patch. It might help focus in on what the root cause of the problem is, which can be many things.

Hi Kevin and thanks
Will follow your good advice.
I was as happy as the proverbial "P .i.S."
with PD11 on my new PC under the previous upgrade
and was thinking either I, my system, or both had been
cursed when it crashed and others reported "no probs " with 2707
Not nice to know that there IS a problem, but nice to know I am not alone!
Somewhat relieved

Just keep in mind that this doesn't mean that build 2707 isn't stable. In my mind it means that this build isn't as stable as I would like it to be on my system. It could be a number of things on my specific system that may not be working well with this build. Although I was told that this build would be a good fit stability wise on my platform. As it turns out it wasn't. This happens from time to time. I roll with it. No big deal.

Yes.Kevin
when 2707 does come up and works, it seems quite stable on my system (Mpeg2 prod) and, oddly, it seems to
be starting up more consistently now with less "non starters" than prior. So thus far I can now live with it
'Yet my PC system remains unchanged
Weird

Hi,
I find that if you work in another 32 bit program , I do stuff in Photo Paint and Xara that are 32Bit programs, then go into PD11 and work on a project Pd11 hangs/freezes on some of the modules (the modules are 32bit I believe). I blame this on the previous programs Xara/PhotoPiant not releasing memory when exited. This is my own conclusions cause if I reboot and go straight to Pd 11 all is fine.

Thank You Dafydd,

In fact I was not posting anything besides the fist one, because I attached the needed information on the original first post and I am waiting for it to be analyzed and commented if or when possible. I have noticed non the less, that it happens more often just after the moment when I have turned ON the machine in the morning, so i am relating the failure more often than not to the process of waking UP, you know, HD working and memory RAM being assigned, so new programs (other than the Auto Start processes, services etc) opening must be kind of "waiting on line" to take it´s portion of RAM and HD and I have noticed that once the RAM and HD activity are idle, PowerDirector opens fine and keep on working, BUT this is a "theory" and certainly it was not happening with the two previous versions.

I cant see anything that jumps out at me in your diagnostic other than you're a bit low on spare capacity in C drive for HD editing. How old are these HDD you have?
What's the spin speed on them?
Have you uninstalled/re-installed PDR11 (uninstall via the control panel)?
Have you uninstalled QT and WaveEditor via the Control Panel when you uninstalled PDR11?
What other media based (audio/video/TV/graphic/capture) software are you running on your PC?
What software do you have installed on your PC? I'm looking for a software conflict.

I'm inclined to think you have either a software conflict, poor installation of PDR11 or you have a hardware issue. The Contents error message may just be a misnomer and triggered by the fault but not really guiding us in the right direction. The startup run error looks to be a "wake up" message as your system is faulty.

Have you taken your computer to a local tech support to be checked? This may be a better option on your part.

Dafydd
