Hi Howard,

I see you are using a firewire card to connect with your PC. I am not an expert with capturing so I am not sure what the problem might be. It is my understanding that the later versions of PowerDirector are more limited in their ability to capture from all types of cameras. Again, I don't have any personal experience with Capturing from within PD as I use a Digital camera and only have to import the digital files onto my PC.

BUT.....

Do you have Windows Movie Maker on your PC? This is a free Windows application and unless it has recently changed....it did have the ability to "Capture" video from a camera. It might be worth investigating. I know you can download it at this link:

I realize that PD11 should be able to, but the ultimate goal is to get your Hi-8 video into a digital form on your PC, then you can import the video into PowerDirector. You might have to get creative and use another application to get this done.

Hi HowardB51 ,
Sony Hi-8, has not been a connection control camera format via firewire for PowerDirector since version 5 or 6. For PDR11 you will need to use the RCA connections via a USB capture analogue device to interface between your camera and pdr. There will not be any camera control via PDR11.

I don't know if this will help. But I had a Sony camcorder that used firewire. When I get a new computer in the fall of 2009 with windows 7 64 bit. I could hook the Sony up with the firewire the OS would see it but has soon has I hit capture it would blue screen windows 7. I did some reading around the net and that happen to everyone with win 7 64 bit. I tried a lot of stuff people talk about. I end up using my old XP box to capture the video to. Then transfer the video over the home network to windows 7 box.
