I'm having ATI specific issues whilst rendering. When I render any project containing any type of files it crashes between 10m50s and 11m10s all the time. No deviation. I open up windows event viewer and it tells me the following;

Faulting application name: PDR11.exe, version: 11.0.0.2516, time stamp: 0x50d066e4

Faulting module name: atimpenc64.dll_unloaded, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x512d0776

Exception code: 0xc0000005

Fault offset: 0x000007fee2dcad41

Faulting process id: 0x19d8

Faulting application start time: 0x01ce1914db7eadba

Faulting application path: D:\PowerDirector 11\PowerDirector11\PDR11.exe

Faulting module path: atimpenc64.dll

Report Id: b50cf39d-8509-11e2-8c30-20cf30361300

I've tried to research this file and not turned up much other than it's location in C:\Program Files\Common Files\ATI Technologies\Multimedia

I've done a fresh install of windows 7 ultimate twice. I've installed various versions of catalyst control drivers and no result. Before I reinstalled windows, powerdirector worked absolutely fine though. The only reason I did a fresh install is because of some Net Framework issues resulting in X split not working.

I switched to an Nvidia card and powerdirector worked perfectly. This is not a optimal solution though. I'm posting this here to listen to any thoughts and solutions. I've spent 4 mighty fine days trying to solve this issue going through the entire forums and trying multiple combinations of problem solutions.

You have said what is happening, but you have not actually given us anything to examine other that Windows error messages.

Part A and Part B
http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/24771.page

Granted the video driver has a big role to play in Powerdirector, it provides preview and rendering functions.
There are many factors that effect Powerdirector performance and/or crashes.

Now that you have replaced the Video Card anything that would be revealed in the Dxdiag.txt file will be for the current video card that you say is working.

However the DXdiag.txt file contains much more information than just the Video Card.

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
Version 11.0.0.2516
SR number VDE130107-01
Avast internet security
No other video editing software installed (Fresh windows install).
K-lite codec pack (latest version)

I mainly work with mpeg4, avi (fraps recordings) and occasional rendering to a h246 .m2ts. I'm aware of issues with rendering when you have multiple different codecs and containers at use but for test purposes I've attempted to render a project with the 3 mentioned above by themselves. (so a project with only a 15 minute .avi file, another project with only mpeg4 and so on...). The result is the same. A crash between 10m50s and 11m10s

I have no issues editing. Only rendering to any format. I've tested different settings like Shadow HD files on/off, openGL and hardware decoding. I never use fast video rendering technology as that instantly crashes powerdirector.

DXdiag is attached. Thanks for getting back to me so fast. I thought this was a lost cause =(

you are one behind. Catalyst 13.2 is the latest one. =P

I have tried the original install version I have on disk, I have also a few older versions. 11. 13.1, 13.2 and a few beta versions I had too.

The Catalyst 13.2 is a Beta driver. Not recommended.

I am currently using Catalyst 12.1, it is very stable on my system.

You have a SSD hard drive, it is short on space.

Drive: C:
Free Space: 19.2 GB
Total Space: 76.3 GB
File System: NTFS
Model: INTEL SSDSA2M080G2GC ATA Device

Drive: D:
Free Space: 143.7 GB
Total Space: 1907.7 GB
File System: NTFS
Model: WDC WD20EARS-00J2GB0 ATA Device

If your temporary files are on C, you do not have enough free space.
If your temporary files are on D, you have plenty of space.

The default place for Windows and Powerdirector temporary files is on C.

my temporary files are not in C or D. Also I don't think that is the case because no settings have changed since I took the Nvidia card out and put the ATI card in. The Nvidia rendered 100% of the time and the ATI card always crashes at 11 minuets.

It is a very odd problem. I originally thought it might have been a capacity problem because of the precisely timed crashing. The only lead I managed to found is related to windows event viewer and the error that gives me listed above

I've installed Adobe After Effects and rendered with that no problem either...I shall try Catalyst 12.1 drivers now!

Nope still crashing at 11 minuets. I'm still drawn to what windows event viewer says though;

Sad to say , but I too have this re-occuring error PD11 64 bit ultra crashes every 10 to 13 minutes.
I get atimpenc64.dll_unloaded in the win7 event monitor.
In fact very easy to simulate: start PD11 all default, no projects or any work selected.
Then minimize on desktop and just wait...
Maybe this came after upgrading to the PD11 latest patch 11.0.0.2707, not sure.
I have 2x ATI 5850 in crossfire, running catalyst 13.3 beta 3
It does not matter if HW acceleration is on or off.
I do have C drive with 2XSSD in raid, and no, the 18GB swap file is not on the C-drive but on a 2 terraB disk,
memory is 6GB of ram; also all PD11 working directories are adapted to point to the terabyte disk.
OS is win 7 64 bit.

That ATI file looks like it might be the MPEG Encoder library.

As of this date, developers of OpenCL are told to use Catalyst 12.10 for most of the graphics hardware according to this page on AMD, so that is what I am using:

http://developer.amd.com/tools/heterogeneous-computing/amd-accelerated-parallel-processing-app-sdk/downloads/

I tried 13.10, but had to go back to 12.10 because OpenCL didn't work in some video editing applications. There were also glitches in screen drawing.

HDedit,

When AMD updates the developer web pages, then I'll try whatever version they list for Radeon HD.

Not sure this is an openCL issue. My reasoning: if you disable both HW acceleration options in the preferences, do no rendering, in fact do nothing at all, let the program idle, then still the program crashes by itself after say 10 minutes or so of starting the program.
Going back to 12.1 catalyst drivers is no option for me as I also am an avid gamer.
On a side note, the developer page at AMD is indeed pointing to 12.1, but if you install from the AMD opencl developer site only the run time SDK for opencl (AMD-APP-SDK-v2.8-Windows-64.exe), you will see that the AMD APP SDK Runtime is version 10.0.1124.2 and this version is higher than the version included in CCC 13.1 (10.0.1084.4 as HDedit pointed out).
In fact if you install 13.3 beta 3 (latest beta) you will get the latest and exact same opencl drivers as on the developer page (10.0.1124.2), so you could spare the effort installing from the developer page drivers.
You can test if openCL is working fine by downloading gpu-z and CLBenchmark.
gpu-z will show a tickmark at opencl if it detects opencl capability, and with CLBenchmark you can test opencl itself and have a performance score.
CCC Version 13.3 beta 3 work fine by the way (apart from the crash in this thread).

I do have an other issue (I believe unrelated to the re-occurring crash), but related to hw acceleration and one particular effects filter called "continuous shooting". Just drop one of the default video's or jpg on the time line and the filter on top of it will always crash my PD, other filters do not have this, disabling the HW acceleration fixes this. There is a separate thread on this, as I am not the only one with this problem, even some nvidea guys have this issue with this particular filter, do you have this issue as well?

I may found a cure for my PD11 crash (atimpenc64.dll_unloaded) after 10 minutes, it may or not may cure your rendering crash as I was not rendering, but was just idling after startup, but here it is (you may want to try this).
I was looking for something periodically scheduled, so I tried to disable the autosave of PD11 which was set at the suspicious value of 10 minutes, but this did not help.
Next I disabled every program / utility from starting when the PC starts (I kept the services going).
This seems to have cured my problem (together with disabling autosave in PD11).
You can do this via typing msconfig from the command field in windows.
click on the tab "opstarten" (not services) I guess it would be "start-up" in English as I have a Dutch os,
and untick all programs/utitilies or the ones you suspect.
You need to reboot after that.
For my PC I (may) narrowed it down to the following culprits (you may have other programs):
- install shield update service
- plexutilities
- quicktime
- Samsung panel manager
- Skype
- Spotify
- Steam client bootstrapper
- Bluetooth stack for ..
- Plexradar

In time I will narrow it down even more by gradually re-adding (tick ) those above until the guilty one is found.

Update:
putting the autosave back on, gave me again the error, so I am not sure if it is the combination of
- removing some stuff from the PC startup (use msconfig to experiment with)
- deactivating the autosave in PD

I am still looking for other culprits as I am not sure I nailed it as there are other users having issues with the latest catalyst drivers and cyberlink PD

http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?p=4567390

Now I am beginning to suspect the atimpenc64.dll_unloaded is related to yet another selectable part of the catalyst package, the accelerated "transcoding drop and drag feature for win7"...
You may want to try this:
I first unticked it in the CCC , then uninstalled that part from the package (use the regular ati catalyst install manager program to uninstall that single part-via uninstall programs, select the cat install program, and use custom to select only that item to uninstall.
Next reboot your PC.
Note that the feature can be removed as it is pretty useless unless you have external devices connected (e.g. ipod) were you want to HW assisted transcoding stuff to it ...

Summary things to do
1) removing some stuff from the PC startup (use msconfig to experiment with)
2) experiment with activating/deactivating the autosave in PD (or change the timer)
3) untick "drag en drop thingy" in CCC and uninstall that part from the catalyst suite + reboot your pc after uninstall

You may want to start with only the third thing first

Update: it is not solved yet, still working to find the issue

Hi,
The question I'm interested to know is: What's happening on your system every 10/11 minutes? (That's triggering the event with PDR11)

PDR11 has a project file AutoSave (auto creates a new pds') set up for 10minutes by default - see Preference settings and location settings.

Another set of questions:
Are you a gamer?
Is your set up overclocked?
Overclocking has been found to have had a detrimental effect on a system running PDR (9) and this may be the case here. There were reports from one editor who had no ill effects (PDR9) from overclocking. However that gamer/overclocked system is now reporting issues on this forum too!

Energy saving devices within your set up?
Editors should set their computers (my method).
a) not to energy save
b) Not to shut down monitors.
Do your HDD have energy shut down modes?

Just throwing some questions into the mix to gain more data from those with issues.

My bet is Skype (try that one first). It is known to cause problems with gaming programs.

I would try Skype first. I think I have seen another member have trouble with Skype.

Yes I am a gamer with a gamer rig I always build and configure myself, including watercooling. However I have not overclocked in years as even today's games are sometimes so taxing that overclocking is indeed very tricky for stability.
Your suggestion about the power options (2 terrabyte cash disk falling asleep) as my pd11 is installed on SSD, it did crossed my mind as well, I'll give it a go.
