Software and Drivers.

gundam: Most reasonable people would not have trouble understanding at least part of your suggestion. Yes, shadowing has an affect on the preview window. You are saying that you have to change the user settings after you add HD video or you also get the green screen also.

I understand that you are trying to change the driver settings to see if that will permanently cure the problem. Please tell us what you do change to fix the problem.

Jack, until you do upload a few seconds of the video, I'm sure I can't do more to help.

That is the right page but, I've checked and people have said that it doesn't work correctly, in the sense it doesn't activate. I'd rather hold off until we are sure that is one of the final possible solutions.

I have uploaded a few seconds of video!! Why don't you check the post before... before... i put 2 links to different download locations, because the upload doesn't work. But because you don't read, here it is again:

http://depositfiles.com/files/93p7g6hk5
(if you have any trouble just recommend another site, but not this one because it doesn't work)

Yep, it is not supported OR the conversion and download screwed up the file. The deposit had too many steps to try to get the file to download. The megasfile worked. I'm not sure why you can't upload as an attachment.

It is a fraps file which you have been saying and it requires you to have a fraps codec on your computer. I used gspot codec information appliance (free) to get that information. I can't even play it because I don't have that codec. That may be why you have the green screen. I tried it with two other video editing programs and none of them worked.

You might try to use a third party converter to convert the file to something usable. I just tried to convert the file to mpg using "Any Video Converter 5" (free) and it converted. I saw what looked to be a blue box with the words blue wool. I added it to Power Director and was able to preview it as it should be. Try that.

Note that I used Power Director 11; I am still having intermittent problems with random crashes with Power Director 10.

Is this enough for you to continue to work on your project. .

Might just be the file size being 15mb... there must be a limit.

No, i have fraps installed... so it can't be the codec. In order for fraps or any program to encode a video, it needs the codec.
And besides, even without the codec, with Movie maker (or live) on a non-windows 8 pc, the file works fine... but simulary, MM has the same trouble with playing AVI files... Ir crashes if i try to preview... I fixed it by running in compatibly mode for XP-SP3 then changing back to W8, but it's still unstable; And unlike MM, PD10 isn't so easily fixed, i tried the same thing but i have had no improvements.

As for "pre-Converting" the AVI file... Yes, it would work; but it just isn't a good option. Converting it not only decreases the quality of the video but it takes time, then adding in the editing process and a the rendering process, which takes time and decreases the quality further; The time taken to edit the video would be pushed way up, and the quality will have a huge impact. As an example; i record a 20 minute video, file size is around 4gb (for 480p), then I'm looking at converting it to lets say WMV, that would take only 10 minutes, 15 top, And the quality will be dropped 5-10%. Then i would edit it, which would at least take 20 minutes, most likely 40 minutes for good editing. Then I'm looking at another 10 to 15 minute rendering time and another 5-10% quality loss. And then, the upload time of usually 15 minutes. Total time, at minimum of 1 hour 15 minutes and at least 10% quality loss. (base on tests) But of course it'll probably take longer, and I'll rather not waste to much time.

Yes, i can work, but barely, with what is suggested.

Ok, I have just loading in some mp4 videos created from my android phone. Similar issue.
If i load the videos into the content library i am able to preview the video with sound and it works.
But, if i put the video into the timeline and want to view the project, the sound plays but the video doesn't; similar green preview screen. But i know for a fact, that i have the right video codec's to play the videos because i can preview them from the library and, encode/decode them. As for WMV files... no, same issue.

If you have problems with both MP4 and WMV, you may need to re-install Powerdirector.

Part A Part B and Part C
http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/24771.page

Powerdirector uses different codecs for the Media Library and the Timeline.

Media library is just playback, the Codes used on the timeline are encoding codecs.

You may need to run your Android MP4 videos through a Converter software.

Many converters will convert the original MP4 of a repaired MP4 video that will work on the Powerdirector timeline.

I have problems with MP4 & WMV for video only, and AVI for Both.
But considering that this problem is present in Windows Movie Maker as well, Re-installing will not make a difference.

Part A:
PowerDirector DE 10.0.1.1925
SR Number VDE120405-01
Licensed to HP

Part B:
http://pastebin.com/hVGH191W (As found in the first post.)

Part C:
I will try but i don't see how a problem present in both PD10 and WMM will be fixed though UN-installing and reinstalling.

Did you ever install a codec pack? Sometimes a bad codec pack will overwrite the codecs that are supposed to be used.to ones that will not work properly. Uninstalling and re installing as Carl suggested might straighten out those codecs.

Since you have a Dell Edition OEM piece of software, have you gone to Dell to see if there is any help there? They also have a good users group.

Most OEMs are castrated teaser versions of the full commercial software.

HP* My laptop and software is HP* i'm in the process of downloading it now...
But, i some how doubt that, seeing as the problem was present with movie maker before i installed codec's/fraps.

Maybe So, but from whats been said it is still usable with various formats.

I was fooled by the DE in the PowerDirector DE 10.0.1.

DE usually stands for Dell Edition. Did you buy your computer new?

Regardless, I think Power Director 10 DE is an OEM piece of software. The rest of the information stands.

You may have gotten it with a Turtle Beach device.

Here is more information on 10 DE:

No... My computer is 100% new. I got it in store and windows 8 was installed but not setup. I found PowerDirector 10 along with the other cyberlink software on my computer pre-installed.

Aha! I tried to install it and it installed but it didn't fix anything.
Then my computer wanted to reboot, it then wanted to start in safe mode and, it worked! And it is working normally now as well!
Wtf? Such a weird bug.

Great, the reboot to normal may have fixed something ! So you are good to go? .

Ok! And it's back!
I was just trying to edit a project out, added a 720p image and PD10 fell over itself and couldn't recover.
Now, every time i go to preview the green screen is back.
I've tried the latest PD10 patch but I've had no luck.

Edit: I can preview the video in the library (Where you load in the media)
But as soon as i add it to the timeline it completely breaks. If i then try to view something from the library it is choppy and laggy and if i choose to view the timeline it completely breaks (Green preview and won't play, it locks up with no error)

Jack, I don;t want to go through all the older posts.

Did we ever talk about antivirus and settings? What antivirus do you have. Have you tried simply turning OFF your antivirus during the rendering (encoding). Sometimes antivirus draw the attention of the CPU away from what it is supposed to be working on to itself thus slowing everything down. If you feel uncomfortable with this, disconnect from the Internet.

For instance, I installed Windows Security Essentials on a old XP computer where I had removed the outdated antivirus on it. The computer became very slow, I found out (searching through the processes) that Essentials could cause the problem because of the uninstalled antivirus.

Have you ever looked at your task manager during the encoding to see what was taking the major CPU load? .

Fair enough with that.
The thing is I'm not even encoding... i mean i am editing and this issue occurs. My antivirus is Comodo and it's set to "Game Mode" hence it won't do anything unless i tell it to.

This issue is during editing and with the preview screen and the lag and various crashed caused by it.

edit: rendering is fine, it doesn't crash or anything.
