Hi,
I want to import a panoramic photo (5000x720 pixel) in my project, and move the point of view from left to right.
But I have a problem. When I import the image lost all the quality: help me!! Is where the mistake?

You're probably doing nothing wrong at all.

Here's where this was asked about previously http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/25307.page#137763 - there are links to other threads too.

Cheers - Tony

Here is another link: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/15/24604.page#133725

CyberLink "When placing a panoramic still image into timeline (6000x1200), PDR regards whole image as a video clip then to do the zoom in action. The full HD video maximum resolution will be up to 1920 x 1080. Therefore, it cannot be zoom in to an image and still keep a good quality. The higher the original image resolution, the less quality. For example, the 6000 x 1200 image turn into 1920 x 1080, the resolution will be downgraded so the quality might not so good. This concept of zoom in video and image is quite different."

Thank you.
But the problem is:
during importing images in high resolution PowerDirector lowers the resolution and I see very low quality ... why?

I start to think that there is a limit on the size for the images to be imported ...

What is your preview setting?

The Powerdirector preview may be set to a low level.

Hi fante -

I understand your frustration, but that sort of "language" probably won't get you more help.

CyberLink's statement, quoted by the moderator above, also probably doesn't fill you with hope. I don't pretend to understand the difference in how PD reads a video as compared to a still image but, as an example of that I imported:
(a) a high resolution panorama - 18000x2286 and
(b) a 4K video - 4096x2304
- then took snapshots in PD to compare.

The snapshot of the panorama was 1920x1080. The snapshot of the 4K video was (as the original) 4096x2304. That, I guess, verifies the CL statement.

Did you look at the panorama videos I posted in the other thread comparing using PD with WPanorama?

Using high res images in video is always going to be a compromise, whatever software you're using. The highest resolution PD11 can produce to is 4K (4096x2304).

Cheers - Tony

Whoops - put the labels back to front in the image... fixed now

Hello

I'm sure this worked OK in Power Director 8.

I cannot check as I have upgrade my computer since then.

Maybe someone else who has Power Director 8 can check

You're right Minny PD 8 did work with this type of file.

After this version CL 'chose' to ignore this 'bug'.

Happy editing Happing editing

Sorry for my language but I'm very disappointed ynotfish ...
I did not understand if it is a bug or not ().
Your advice is to use WPanorama?

Without having tested other software, I'd say whatever NLE was used would exhibit something of the same problem. Image resolution is being decreased significantly & motion is being added to complicate things further.

WPanorama does a good job, but it, too, is restricted to 1920x1080. I don't know of any way round that.

Of the three methods mentioned above, I've found that using WPanorama gives the best quality... & particularly when the images are very high res (like the one in the screenshot in my other post).

That said, you can get acceptable results using PD's PiP Designer & Magic Motion. It really depends on your purpose.

Cheers - Tony

I can import a 14398 x 9599 pixel tiff image into PDR11 without problems (so far to that point). I resized the image by adjusting the bounding rectangle around the image in the preview window so that about 25% of the image is showing at any one time. Initially there is no room to expand the rectangle, so I changed the preview zoom level to 10% to make room.

I produced a 1920x1080 MPEG-4 (AVC) video. When played back in DivX at full screen, the quality is just about the same as when I view the same region of the image at the same zoom level in Photoshop. A couple or more PDR versions ago I tried something similar, but didn't get these same good results.

You can't judge the quality of the image in the PDR preview window. You have to produce a video to judge the quality. When I viewed my tiff image in PDR, it looked pixelated when zoomed in, even when I had the preview quality set to the best setting.

Before viewing the video in DivX, I tried playing it in Splash, but Splash always displays MPEG-4 (AVC) about 16 levels (out of 255 levels) of luminance too high. That makes the video look a little washed out because of the loss of black.

For the record, I changed the the Cyberlink PowerDirector11 VideoRenderer from VMR7 to VMR9 in the Registry. I mainly do that because I can then use my 3rd party color picker to sample colors in the preview window. I don't judge the pdr preview. The final video also have the same (very) poor quality of the preview.
I tried to change the format of pano image imported from jpg to tiff. The format of the video produced from avi to mp4 to avc, TO AVI, but the result DON'T CHANGE.
Where is my mistake?
I need to change any setting in the import of images?
I'm go crazy....

For a 5000 x 720 pano image, you must produce a video that is not more than 1280 x 720. You can not produce a 1920 x 1080 video. The height is the determining factor here, since you want to pan left to right. If the height of the produced video is greater than 720, then your pano image is being up-rezed, which causes a loss of quality.

My final video is a 720x576 dvd.
Something wrong but I do not know what...

Now I used wPanorama for scroll and debut to capture the window screen. Good work but too long. I need a solution with only PD11 :'(

Hi again -

Sorry - the processes you're using are never going to get good results out of that image.

Whatever way we go about doing it is going to be a compromise, but using screen capture software & producing to DVD quality is almost maximising the quality loss.

Quality is going to suffer from the initial zoom, then the capture, then producing to DVD quality...

Using WPanorama, a series of AVI files is made, with a maximum resolution of 1920x1080. These can be inserted in PD - end to end - for production... https://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/45/15025.page#91754 - there is no need for screen capture software at all.

Just as Xerox has said, using PD only can give satisfactory results... but not with screen capture software & producing to DVD quality.

Quote: I produced a 1920x1080 MPEG-4 (AVC) video. When played back in DivX at full screen, the quality is just about the same as when I view the same region of the image at the same zoom level in Photoshop. A couple or more PDR versions ago I tried something similar, but didn't get these same good results.

Xerox - I am on the way to semi-confirming your statement about previous versions with Magic Motion. I've done some tests using the same images, motion & production properties with PD8, 9 10 & 11. Next, I'll repeat the procedure using PiP Designer. What I've observed so far is that PD11 appears to have the edge over PD9 & 10... very similar to PD8. The magic motion test video is on YouTube @ http://youtu.be/z7VXgA9txKc - even though that's not the best viewing platform!
