Regardless of the ATI instructions, they've designed the interface to click-to-update from the newer AMD control panel, and we all agree the driver is too old. I've no doubt Mark45 is now a little confused about what to do.

The ati instructions are on the link I listed, just read and decide what's best yourself. He should not be confused, my instructions are very detailed and clear, and per manufacturer. Yes, there are other, less than optimal ways to upgrade.

The poster can just follow the ati part if he only wants to uograde video. Chipset and BIOS drivers updates, are only needed when a system gets really out of date, as this one is. Going forward, the video drivers will be the only ones needing regular updates, so the ati instruction will be all that's needed. But all these parts work together.

I only answered your request for experienced instructions, from an ati IT. Its up to the individual whether they want to follow.

Randy

Randy, thanks for the extensive instructions. I'll print them off and try to follow in the correct sequence (having set a system restore just beforehand in case I screw up).

I knew you guys would help!

Mark, when you go to Dell site and type in your system I'd number, it will show you all driver updates for your specific system. What you want to download and install are anything Intel related. Follow their instructions. Be careful on the BIOS update, make sure you don't restart until it tells you that its done. Self Built PC - W7 Pro 64 bit w/ SP1

Check to see if the frame rates and interlacing are matched between that of the Panasonic and your rendered video output.

Sorry, don't know how to put it in the box!

Before launching into Randy's updating list, I've tried to check the frame rates and interlacing as you suggested.
The original Pana clip is 25fps interlaced; 9604 kbps.
the various H264AVC formats I've tried are 1920 X 1080; 1920 X 1080p: 1920 X 1080 (24fps) (that's all the 1080 available in the Trial version). All look bad. Just for comparison i produced a clip as .AVI and it was much better, though not perfect.

Is the problem one of not matching the files correctly in the PD10Trial and would it be possible in the full version? If PD10 can't take my Pana clips I'll have to go elsewhere!

Hi KentuckyRandy,

I just had to log in and thank you for your answer to this topic. I'm in the same boat as the original poster and your instructions were perfect for me to get the results I've also been looking for in evaluating PD10.

Much lower choppiness now with fully updated BIOS, drivers etc., and I'm sure with the full package that any further quality issues will be tweakable (fingers crossed).

Cheers and thanks from Oz,

Well, I've updated the ATI drivers and it doesn't seem to recognise my wide screen display - circles are displayed somewhat squashed!

When playing my original clips it is now jerky as well instead of fluid.

Have I done something silly?

Help!

I've managed to get the setting back OK by using catalyst and deleting the driver I had installed. I notice that the "old" driver is still there, though I thought i had deleted it.

I'll try again later guests coming in 30 minutes!

I went though the update process again, all looked good.

ran PD10(trial) on my original clip and it wouldn't accept AVC rendering as I couldn't tick "hardware encoding".
Rendered in Mpeg2 at 1920X1080 (also DVD quality) and results were fine, no jerkyness at all.

checked DXdiag and saw that my drivers were still the original ones (presumably wht PD10 would not let me use Hardware encoding - but it did previously???)

Used windows to search for driver updates and it found something and installed it.

ran PD10 and this time it let me use hardware encoding for ACV but the results were as before - jumpy.

My conclusion is that it is when I'm using the card's hardware encoding that the problem is arising?

I did notice an earlier thread on this froum which mentioned problems with Panasonic SD9 and PD8 - I wonder if this is still an issue?

Attached dxdiags of the latest configuration, be interested in your opinions

And thanks to you all

Hi,

I have a similar issue now with the PD11 trial. (see http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/25019.page).

So now I'm keen to know if you could actually solve the problem by installing/buying the full version (which has all the h264 features)?

Thanks
