How to produce a 1080p50 (or 1080p60) movie which can be played on playstation 3

I have a Panasonic TM700 camera and shoot clips in 1080p50.

I can't manage to produce 1080p50 files with Powerdirector 9 which can be played on the PS3.

I use Powerdirector 9 (version 9.0.0.2701) for editing.
I edited the custom H.264 AVC profile.ini file and raised the max bitrate to 28000000

As a result both the original clips from the camera and the edited clips (m2ts) produced with the custom profile play perfectly on my laptop (very smoothly)

I would like to play the movies on my PS3 (Playstation 3).
The original 1080P50 clips play without a problem on the PS3. The m2ts files produced with Powerdirector aren't recognized by the PS3 (incompatible data).

I also tried the "FIX PD9" (mentioned here by jmone http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/15533.page) to change the headers.
Now I can play the files on the PS3, but the video doesn't play smooth at all. On my laptop these 'fixed' files still play smooth.

Who knows how I can play the 1080p50 files from powerdirector smoothly on the PS3?
@Cyberlink: Why isn't the option to export to device PS3 not included (and of course at 1080p50)

Any help is appreciated. Dell Latitude E6520 | I7 2720QM | 8GB | Nvidia NVS 4200M 1GB| Win 7 64 bit

Not that I have ever seen one... I thought playstations could play regular movie videos...... __________________________________________

These are the file formats that PS3 can play.

http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/current/video/filetypes.html

If you produce one of these formats PS3 will play files produced in Powerdirector.

Hi corival,

The PS3 (as you have seen) is able to play the raw files, but the files as produced by PD9 can be different. You did not say how you were creating the files but if I suggest you try the following. Create a simple project with one clip (longer than 1 minute), no transitions etc. Then create three versions of the 50p output one each using SVRT, GPU, and Rendering. See how they play. Trying running each through the FixPD9 - see how they play.

Some claim the PS3 Filter Setting can you be causing issues -

Hi Jmone,

I made a simple project of 1:20 min.

In H.264 AVC I can't select Fast Video Rendering Technology, SVRT or Hardware Video Encoder. All these options are greyed out.

When I produce a movie H.264 AVC (custom profile max bitrate 28000000), the output file is only recognized after fixPD9 and then plays with a lot of Stutter. (Frame Noise reduction, Block Noise reduction and Mosquito Noise reduction turned off).

I also produced a MPEG-4 Video. Hardware Video Encoder can be used with MPEG-4, SVRT is still greyed out. I used a custom profile with a max bitrate of 28000000 and a Video Bitrate of 25000000. Both with and without Hardware Video Encoder used. These files play fine on the PS3 (after all noise reductions are turned off, thanks for that suggestion!).

However the quality of the MP4 movies is much worse compared to the original file.

I'm still not satisfied, because I believe that there should be a way to get it to work with the H.264 AVC File format.
Do you know somebody who claimed to have this problem solved?

Can you upload an original sample that is just over 1min, and I'll see what works at my end with various encoding settings(I've also a PS3 I can test on), and then I'll post back the one that works best so you can then test at your end.

Hi jmone,

I uploaded an original 1080p50 sample here:
http://www.2shared.com/file/G5Etb8ba/00069.html?

I tried some different encoding settings but still without luck.

In this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGxtHyHotNk you can see my results.
The first clip is the original which runs smooth. The 2nd clip is the file produced with Cyberlink powerdirector 9 and FIXPD9.
You can see that this clip doesn't run smooth at all.

I really appriciate your offer and I hope that it will work.

Thanks!

I've been away with work for a couple of days but should get to try it out in the next day. Have a read also of the last two pages of this thread as well. http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/15533.page

I've created 4 Clips from your original one and I'm uploading them now:
SVRT: This was created with SVRT ON and plays fine on the PS3
SVRT-Fix: This was created with SVRT ON and then run through "PD9 Fix" and plays fine on the PS3
CPU: This was created with all "fast video rendering technology" uncheked and the PS3 sees this file as unsupported data
CPU-Fix: This was created with all "fast video rendering technology" uncheked then run though "PD9 Fix" and while the PS3 sees this file it stutters badly on playback (you can see the timer jump back and forward)

As your original file had a Video Bit Rate of 25.2mbps I had to manually edit the Profile.ini (Video Bitrate=23500000 and Max Bitrate=26000000) for SVRT to be enabled as an option in PD9.

Notes:
SVRT: This just copies the video and audio stream from the original and only encodes the segments where you have mad edits (such as added titles, effects, transitions etc). For me however there is a bug where post an edit I see visual corruption where PD9 goes from rendering the editied section back to SVRT. If you are going to use SVRT to get PS3 playback working you may want to avoid making any edits for the first 10sec of each clip so that the initial section is not re-rendered. Have a play anyway.

CPU: PD9 is re-encoding both Audio and Video stream. PD9 is doing something odd to these streams as they don't play well in a number of environments (including the PS3)

Fix PD-9: Not only is the PD9 have an "odd" video / audio stream output, but the M2TS container it creates is not that standard either. the Fix PD-9 just remuxes these Video and Audio stream into a more std container format - it seems to help with playback on some devices.

The 4 files will take sometime to upload but I'll add the links here:
SVRT: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=UL9UQ3GQ
SVRT Fix: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=YSJEKYKF
CPU: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=NIE29K1Q
CPU Fix: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=FN6DI6JP

As reported in the other thread previously, there are two things Arcsoft need to still work on:
1) Better compatibility when using CPU Rendering of these files
2) Corruption in the Transition from SVRT to CPU Rendering

Thanks
Nathan

Thank you so much for your help! I'm away for a few day and can't test the files till end next week. I'm sorry.

jmone, I would like to thank you for your time in figuring this out. My problem was identical to corival's and your post was the key to unlocking the mystery. I did not appreciate that producing the file with SVRT on would be the piece I needed to make the playback of my 28 Mbps files smooth on the PS3.

I would like to extend my thanks to the othr senior contributors, whose collective publications on this forum have been a real education for me.

I have found a solution to produce excellent quality 1080p 50 files and play them on PS3 without using SVRT (and not having the problems associated with SVRT). The solution is about changing the profile settings. Please visit my thread for the entire info. It would be good to get your feedback if this works for you!

I would like to add to this thread that for those who might still have trouble with 1080p60 files on the PS3, do the above, but use CAVLC entropy coding instead of CABAC. Apparently, CAVLC is a less efficient compression technique, but requires considerably less processing power to decode, making it easier to play on the PS3. I had video stutter problems until switching the entropy coding to CAVLC.
