Power Director 9 Ultra won't open.

Just received my eagerly awaited Power Director 9 CD in the post. Previously an Adobe user but decided to make the change. The CD Installed OK but when opening the application I find it is very slow to open, about 3 minutes, then I get a message "Importing Media" after several minutes more the message changes to " Importing Media (Not responding). The computer hangs at this point.

This is my first post - if I haven't given enough info please let me know. Not sure whether the Forum is the right arena for this type of question, so I have raised a technical ticket also. I've only got 30 days to decide if I'm keeping the CD.

Many thanks. R780 Laptop,Windows 7 Home Premium 32 Bit, i5 Core M430, 2.27Ghz, 4GB Ram(useable 3.48GB), Nvidia GT330M (1024MB) Cuda.

When Power Director opens it trys to import the sample files that are included in the contents pack.

Did you install the contents pack? It is a seperate installation. If not that could be the problem.

Hello HalCon.

Many thanks for replying.
Regarding the Contents Pack.
Should this have come on the installation CD?
Since receiving your reply, I've checked the folders and files on the installation CD, but cannot find any reference to the Contents Pack?
Can I download it instead?

Many thanks. R780 Laptop,Windows 7 Home Premium 32 Bit, i5 Core M430, 2.27Ghz, 4GB Ram(useable 3.48GB), Nvidia GT330M (1024MB) Cuda.

Never had a CD, all my versions have been downloads but PD9 has 2 separate installation files (see attached) There are 2 versions of the programme installation shown here and 1 version of the content pack. I would assume that the CD has one of each.

Cheers

Like Adrian, I have never had the CD. I use only the download installation files. The program installation file and the contents pack installation file.

Could you attach a screen shot of the folder listing of the installation CD.

If you need help creating a screen shot let me know.

Hal

Thanks guys for your help.

I chose to buy the CD, because the Broadband speed at my location is not the fastest, 321Kbs. Also it can drop out from time to time.
I've tried to send two previous replies with screen captures of the CD folder view added. Hal if you can give me a hint I would appreciate it.

I waited three weeks for the CD to come from the US, via Amazon, CD and user guide booklet all look official!

Carl,
I'm running the software on a Samsung R780.
Windows 7 Home Premium 32Bit,
i5 Core M430, 2.27Ghz,
4GB Ram(useable 3.48GB)
NvidiaGeforce GT330M (1024MB) Cuda

I placed a technical enquiry ticket with Cyberlink asking whether my system would run the new PD9 Ultra before I purchased the software CD, they wrote back saying it would work OK. Its slow to load but hangs on the importing media.

I'll send the folder views when I figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Thx.

Open the folder with the CD contents showing. Windows Explorer.

1 - Hold the CTRL key and press PrtScr. This will save an image of the screen on the clipboard.
2 - Open a photo editing program (Windows Paint will do the trick).
3 - Click - Edit - paste. This will put the image into your editing program.
4 - Save the file - use the .png for the file type. Remember where.
5 - On your next post use the Post Reply (not the Quick Reply button)
6 - Just below the text box where you enter your message you will see the attachment button. Click it
7 - Locate the file you saved using the browse option. Add it to your post
8 - Click submit.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Hal.

I've attached (hopefully) two screen captures of the Cyberlink Power Director 9 Ultra 64 CD.
The first shows the top level folders and the second shows the PD folder expanded.

Many thanks.

Laurie.

Laurie,

The images that you posted are showing the contents of the file structure on your C: Hard drive, according to the path showing in the Title Bar of the Explorer window.

We should be seeing the folder structure of the D: drive with the CD inserted.

But that is beside the point. Click on the SampleClips folder and see if there are any contents. They should match the attached shot.

Hal.

Hal.

I've followed your suggestion, please see attached. The sample clips folder was there and it contained the same as your example. I double clicked the video sample and it played OK from that location. The Castles and Tulips opened up from the folder location fine too.

I've also added an attachment of the file structure with the CD inserted for additional info.

Many thanks for sticking with me on this issue.

Laurie.

Laurie,

The only thing I can suggest you try right now is to remove all the applications that you installed from the CD and start over. I have a feeling that something did not get installed correctly.

Have a look at this thread for a cleaner tool if required.

I see you have the free trial versions of many of the other packages available (Power DVD, Power2Go etc.) After removing, install only the Power Director program. None of the others. See if PD9 will open then.

If you are successful above then you could try adding the other trial programs as desired or needed.

I hope we can get you up and running soon.

Hal

Hal,

I uninstalled the entire Folders and Files - all went well.
The CD had an auto installation set up so I was only able to prevent the smartsound programme installing.
Tried PD9 - still no change.
I uninstalled all the other trial programmes leaving only PD9 and the wave editor as is.
Still no change.
I then followed the thread and downloaded the cleaner. Installed it OK. PD9 would not open at all until I rebooted the laptop.

PD9 opened to the usual step and hung again at "Importing Media"
I thought there must be away to install just PD9 from the CD file structure to circumvent the auto loading. So decided to uninstall everything again and start a fresh.

One slight problem the cleaner patch had removed the visibility of PD9 from the windows/control panel/ programme uninstall list. It was there in the folders but not available to unistall from the conventional way. I decided to go back to a restore point a day earlier. Antivirus programme through a complete wobbly- hence my delay in getting back on the forum.

Bit of a long explanation!

Any ideas as to what next?

If, as it appears, the issue is the loading of the sample files (why I don't know) maybe try this :

There are 2 registry keys for autoloading both the sample files and the previous project.

You can change the values to prevent them loading - you can also do this in preferences, if and when you get PD up and running. The value is 00 00 00 00 for No Load, 01 00 00 00 for Load.

Do this at your own risk.

Make sure PD is not running.

Run regedit
Take a backup of your registry.
navigate to
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cyberlink\PowerDirector\9.0

In the rt hand window look for the keys
AutoLoadPrj
AutoLoadSampleClips

Change both values to
00 00 00 00

Exit

Restart PD

Worth a try?

Cheers
Adrian

Hal, Adrian and Carl.

I wanted to let you know I'm finally up and running!

Saba, at Cyberlink tech help, dropped me a message saying I could have a download of the application because the CD was not working.

I couldn't get the download to work from my home location but did get it finally from my parents much faster internet connection. The download version loaded up first time OK. There was so much difference in the installation time needed, to that of the CD. I'm convinced the CD had parts of the software missing.

Any way I'm looking forward to learning more about the programme now.
I just wanted to let you know it's fixed and to thank you for your help -
I was beginning to loose hope -
Thanks again Laurie. R780 Laptop,Windows 7 Home Premium 32 Bit, i5 Core M430, 2.27Ghz, 4GB Ram(useable 3.48GB), Nvidia GT330M (1024MB) Cuda.

Laurie,

Glad you got it up and running.

I am sure you will be happy with the program. There is a learning curve, but do not hesitate to ask questions and experiment with the various features.

This is really a sad case. Essentially Cyberlink confirmed that their CD distribution had incomplete software. I have to question these folks ability to issue consistent quality. Win 10, i7
